What's for dinner today?

Post by Bill in Oregon »

Gloomy and wet here in SW New Mexico, so I am cooking up a big pot of chicken noodle soup. I don't know why, but I get strange satisfaction from all these veggies and turnips in particular, just because they have fallen so far out of fashion. i can imagine a great-grandmother coming over to cook and asking me to fetch carrots, turnips and a parsnip from the root cellar. "What do you mean you don't have any turnips or parsnips in the root cellar? What do you mean you don't have a root cellar? Why in all my born I never heard of such a thing!"

P.S. And may all the Secesh on Mom's side forgive me for not doing black-eyed peas and collard greens. Soon. Very soon.

Today is a real nice pot roast Bill.
Couple weeks ago a guy in the club disappointed his dog by missing 5 pheasants. He was dejected to say the least. I asked him what was wrong and he said my son is going to be upset with me as he was looking forward to making pheasant noodle soup from todays hunt for his grandparentsChristmas eve dinner. I gave him the 3 I shot.
Later he texted me, thanking me and remarking how clean the birds were. The guys are amazed at how I make so many head shots on birds.

Not really doing much. I might start a pot of ham and beans for Friday. Weather here is mild and sunny.

Chorizo and kale soup, with warm homemade bread.

Hot coffee and a little bit of dark chocolate for dessert.

Leftovers tomorrow. We'll probably reheat the bread in the
oven and smear it with butter and crushed garlic. YUMM!!!

Gonna be cold the next few days - highs in the teens(F), and lows
around zero(F). Hot soup will be welcome, and we're VERY thankful
to have it!

Pot roast sounds mighty good, too.....
