Chancellorsville battlefield

Post by Scott Tschirhart »

I’m on the Chancellorsville battlefield. I can’t explain why this place haunts me. I always visit the site where Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded. I can’t be here dry eyed.

Nice images, thanks for sharing.

Gee, I need to get visiting some sites down south, as the only Civil War battle site this Yankee * has ever been to was in... -- St. Albans, Vermont! (Check out my posting on this site about that: viewtopic.php?p=1018610)

( * At least I'm not a day-um Yankee... )

The nearest military cemetery to my house is a forgotten family plot at the intersection of a couple roads in an area being developed. Nestled in a small grove of trees you'll find a family plot with 5 tombstones. Two are military ones (like Arlington), for a set of brothers who died during the Civil War. The site is largely neglected, though sometimes I'll find signs that someone has been there to pay their respects. On Saturday 12/13, during the "Wreaths Across America" day, I purchased a couple of wreaths to lay at their graves. My eyes got a little moist then too.

Wife and I went to Shiloh one afternoon. As the day went on and it was close to closing time(we were the last car there) and getting a bit darker, I could almost feel eyes on me. All around me. Wife felt it to.

I saluted them and thanked them for their sacrifice and we left. Only then did the hair on the back of my neck quit standing up.

I have always had an interest in the Civil war especially Confederate history, so much more interesting than our own Civil war a couple of hundred years earlier.

YK well done with the wreaths 8)

Y'all might like THIS series of youtube videos on Revolutionary War battle-sites.

The lady's NorthEastern accent is actually kind of fun, too (normally I'm not a fan of that accent).
