Fictional character Sam Brigade

Post by Scott Tschirhart »

I read a western novel once with the main character being Sam Brigade.

I think there was even a movie based ion the story.

Does anyone remember the name of the book? Google isn’t helping.

Sam was an aging retired lawman as I recall. His daughter was taken in a kidnapping to draw him out and he and her fiancé went out to track them down.

I can't come up with a Sam but Ben Brigade was a character played by Randolph Scott in in the movie Ride Lonesome.

As I recall it was a great story. Talked about choosing which guns to take with as it was a transitional period between older and newer arms and I recall that he chose a double action revolver over a SAA and it played to his advantage when one of his opponents counted to five and made an improvident approach

I think Jim nailed it. Looks pretty good, and I like both Heston and Coburn.

On a side note, James Coburn spent the tail end of his life in Scottsdale and I would see him headed south on Scottsdale Rd just about every day at lunchtime - he drove an old red Mercedes convertible. Was always hunkered down behind aviator glasses and a rally cap, I'd give him a wave and he always waved back. Pretty funny and a highlight of my days working in "Snotsdale".

Looks good.
The director’s father, Victor, was in the greatest fist fight ever filmed with his friend John Wayne — in The Quiet Man.

The book is really good and you just don’t get everything out of the movie. Both are really good.

That was a good film.

I had heard of Randolph Scott but not seen any of his films until the past few years, many are quite good, all things considered. Many are on youtube, often with titles missing, possibly to avoid perceived copyright issues. Just searching either his name and movies on youtube, or classic western movies (or tv shows) quite a lot turns up.

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?
