New pistol problem

I recently purchased a new 1911 pistol , and upon cleaning it I noticed marks in the barrel , I missed in the store.
Probably should send it in , but what do you guys think ?

As long as it hits what I'm aiming at and doesn't blow powder on me, I'm reluctant to have anything done to it.

Now that I’m retired , I like the cold less and less.
If it needs to go back , I’ve got time to do it .
Never seen marks like it before.

I would shoot it first then decide.

I've got a 624 with one chatter mark like that just inside the muzzle, it shoots fine.

That probably won't be a problem.
But to satisfy my curiosity I would go back to the shop where you bought it and shine a light down the bore of others from the same manufacturer. If they are all that way then they have a machining problem. If yours is the only one then exchange it or send it back.

If it were a rifle, I think I would be returning it, but not a pistol.
I would return it even on a pistol if it weren’t so symmetric and smooth looking though.

I predict someone will read this thread, then go look inside a barrel they've been shooting with satisfaction for years... and send it back to the factory.

All advice is worth weighing. However I personally would do nothing except shoot it and see how it does. The way a barrel looks does not always tell you anything about how it will shoot.

For instance. A friend brought his 1911 Gold Cup with a problem. The slide was locked in battery and could not be opened. Locked up tightly. My Dad got it open and found that a bullet had stopped about halfway down the bore and another was fired into it causing a bulge big enough that it locked the slide in place.

Dad turned the outside of the barrel down, got the gun working again and shot it on the range. It stayed in 2" or less at 25 yards. With a big ugly looking egg in the middle of the rifling.

Don't act on looks alone. Test it. Prove it.

That should be a habit of life, applied to most everything.

I bought a used RWS air rifle with a bent barrel. The guys son was not able to get the break barrel all the way to full cock. He let go and the barrel was sent home via spring tension.
If you looked through the bore your vision was able to see the bend of about .015" .
I showed it to one of my instructors, told be to take the barrel off and he would show me how to straighten it. WHACK, eyeball, WHACK,eyeball, WHACK again on a block of babbit and presto a straight barrel!
It still shot well but not enough adjustments in the sites. Afterwards the sites were back in the middle of the adjustments. He always said ' it never hurts to try' , words to live by.

I agree with the 'shoot it and see' approach. But as it is a new firearm contact, customer service first, and see what they say. Then, if you don't like the groups, you can try the barrel break-in process or Fire Lapping.

Air rifle barrels, especially the spring powered ones, get bent fairly easily. I've used a "bear hug" to get one bent back in place. A friend over in the UK has a hole in a fence post on his property that's his barrel straightener. He pokes the barrel in then gives it a bit of a push until it's straightened again.

As for the original post, "Shoot it and see" is the best advice. Also, it MIGHT prefer copper over lead if lead starts catching in that skid mark and causing leading. There's really only one way to find out!

I’m betting that barrel will shoot better than you can hold.

I have several pistols that don’t look that good but shoot just fine.

Some crappy-looking barrels will shoot jacketed fine but won't shoot lead worth a hoot. If they won't shoot my lead bullets I don't count them as satisfactory.
