One proud papa
My 8 year old got her first whitetail!
Its was a chip shot at 27 yards with a 16" AR in 5.56, Sig Tango6 4-14×44.
Speer 75gr Gold Dot, Lord have mercy did it make a mess of that deer. She made a perfect quartering heart shot.
The round entered just in front of the left front shoulder, absolutely obliterated its heart, shredded the lungs and exited the ribs on the offside.
I had forgotten to put my ear pro in....darn that was loud.
Deer went about 15ft and piled up. It make a classic high jump with rear leg kick.
Super proud of her and she cannot stop smiling
I wantes her to use my winchester 1892 in 357 mag but sadly she preferres the AR.

Very cool!!
Re: One proud papa
.
It is probably typical of youngsters to prefer the AR-15 'platform' to a levergun, especially due to the ones with collapsable stocks being WAY more ergonomic for a kid to shoulder and get sights aligned, versus the typical iron-sighted levergun.
However, I'm betting if you gently encourage without being pushy, before long she'll favor the levergun. For one thing, a hardcast 357 Mag will destroy less meat, and will be just as quick to kill with a thorax hit. Just be sure it has whatever the best sights FOR HER on it, even if she prefers a red-dot or whatever space-age thing instead of irons. Personally I find the Williams FP with a green fiber or gold bead front to be perfect, although the Marbles Bullseye is faster to acquire and obstructs less than the Williams FP, but it isn't adjustable (other than 'drift' like most rear sights).

Dang fine job dad!
I remember when my kids (and grandkids) were 8 years old they were still in the stage where their interest was all in the "bang" part and I was having trouble getting them to even care if they hit anything...

Re: One proud papa
Over the summer she was shooting crab apples at ranges from 25 yards to 200. In truth, she is one of the best natural rifle shots I have ever seen. When we first started practicing on the apples I had her shoot them at 25 and 50. She told me that was too easy so I moved them to a hundred and said "you can practice on the target first"...she looks at me and says "I will just shoot the apples", then boom, boom and boom...dusted them all

There are gifted rifle shots that come along from time to time. One thinks of Miss Oakley.
