Sage and her exploits

Post by GunnyMack »

3 weeks into the '25 bird season and Sage is doing well with her second season.
She has been hunting with multiple other folks and performing like a champ!

This morning I took a club members son and myself. He shooting a 12 and I took the mighty 410!
First bird up was missed by the 12 ga and flew off the property. Second bird was dropped by 11/16 oz of 7narfs with a perfect head shot( I love it when they flush crossing!)
Next bird up was another crosser and again the 410 barked once and head shot . I know when I shoot Sage doesn't have to chase cripples.
Sage worked another bird that flushed for the other hunter and thankfully he had an IC choke in as he hit it really fast , but in the back mostly so should be good for the table.
We worked towards the end of the field and I could see Sage getting birdy, she hit the edge of the field and lit the afterburners chasing a runner. The rooster flushed in front of me, going away and I made the shot, the bird folded when the other guy shot needlessly as the bird was dead , now dead twice!

I'm very proud of my Sage, soft mouthed, no need for the shock collar, listens well and she won't grab a live bird unlike Parker or Claro!

She's a dream bird dog, Will! She has obviously outgrown those muddy puppy paws! 8)

Ha! You would think that but she still has her puppy moments, yesterday she ran around at full speed in pure joy before she settled and started using her nose.

The Thanksgiving holiday really hurt the participation from the club members. I was the only one available to hunt yesterday. Sage was more like the Tasmanian devil, just a yellow tornado through the field but she found 3 birds , my Parker got the job done with 4 shots.
This morning a couple other guys showed up to light snow and by the time we got to hunting the ground was turning white. It's days like this I reach for my 410.
Sage was again a whirlwind of yellow bounding and bouncing through the thick. She found 9 birds of which 6 went in the bag.

Got over to the farm this morning, a little snow fell overnight, always fun to hunt in the snow.
Sage was her usual bubbly ( think hyper whirlwind) self. I swear she can piroette on a pin head she just moves so fast with excitement!
Turns out we were the only ones to show up.
I put out 3 roosters and a hen, not putting them down hard as I was hoping to get them to move around, all 4 were where I put them.
The Ol Reliable Parker spoke 4 times and man's best friend brought 4 birds to hand!
I really need to start taking pictures!
