hunting with fiber optics in brush
Hey all,
I recently got fiber optics and It's alot easier to shoot iron sights for my bifocal eyes at 59. Mixed reviews on them in regards to getting cold and brittle they break off. I guess if you aren't reckless through brush they should be fine. Just some feed back, maybe some feedback on how exactly they do break off in the brush, limbs whacking them etc...

Most of them seem to be pretty rugged. I have extra fiber optic pieces to fix them but I have never personally broken one.

Never broke one, either.

But they are this easy to fix if you break one. I have changed. Out several to change colors.
And even if the fiber optic breaks you still have the irons until you get it fixed.

Re: hunting with fiber optics in brush
I have Tru glo front sight on one rifle, that have a three slot bracket, but the rear sight isn't as protected like HiViz. Have Hiviz on another rifle but not crazy about the front (only two slot bracket, exposing the rod. I had to have Skinner mill the front end of thier taller front sight (Front barrel/mag tube is up against the dovetailed barrel) for my Marlin 30 AS with a Williams fire sight rear sight, Skinner doesn't make a rear sight save thier peep. Hiviz comes with the tool to swap out the rods up front. The rep told me he would send me the tool for the rear, but it's pretty well protected.
Really amazes me that they dropped the ball on the front sight, ya know ?

Any sight that is only held in by forming a "rivot" on the ends of the rod where the it exits the sleeves on the sight blade to me is crapola. I hope Hiviz or any other sight that is recessed should work fine.

I heard of rabbit hunters breaking those light pipes off their shotguns.

I believe reckless tromping through brush after rabbits with dogs isn’t the same as big game hunting. Once in the brush, if daylight permits, gives you plenty of time to find them.

Good luck finding anything that small broken off in the briars and honeysuckle of an eastern NC cutdown. It’s much more practical to use a bead to start with. I like to hunt but not for parts of my gun. I suppose one could be more gingerly in some pursuits, but what about when the rifle is slung and you’re dragging the deer out? I just don’t care for sights a small vine can pull off
