Hope our forum survives

Post by earlmck »

I dropped by yesterday to see if we were "up". Watched the snake chase his tail for 20 seconds or so and just went on in disgust. But dang, today it seems we are functioning! It is good to hear you olde pharts a going on again.

3 of the grandboys been joining me with levers and singles (fellers who used to only be interested in the newest and greatest). |'m afraid they've checked out the site during the "struggles" and may not return.
Without some young blood we're on slow downward trajectory here.

Blew the pi-jeezus outs' the old right arm, so kinda' slow typing here as a lefty. Just having thoughts...

Earl, we're all concerned that the forum stays healthy and dependable. We do need grandsons aboard!

Anyone know the nature of this issue- is it a problem with a financial solution? Can folks contribute in some way. Id be prepared to, if it looks in peril.

"...Without some young blood we're on slow downward trajectory here..."

True of the firearms hobby in general, and true of FREEDOM in general.

The solutions involve:

>>> Get them back to church (take them with you, and do something more 'fun' afterwards - even something THEY like...)

>>> ALL kids should be HOME-SCHOOLED - no excuses. Downsize the house, do whatever. Even when they go to public school, you have to spend a couple hours a day de-programming them and helping them with homework if you're going to have them do well. So 'just' home-school. It is a BIG sacrifice - probably the biggest of your life......but your CHILDREN are your ONLY legacy, so it is indeed a sacrifice. Deal with it. Many with poverty-level income and terrible life conditions manage to do it. Now a Church-based school MAY be ok, but I see lots of them far more 'woke' than the parents realize, so if you do use one, BE INVOLVED and monitor all they do.

>>> TAKE THEM SHOOTING. Easy guns at first, especially if they are petite, or shy-types. FUN shooting like gongs or even Tannerite...!

>>> Spend other quality time with them. Discuss 'life', priorities, politics, HISTORY (they won't learn it unless you do home-school).

Thankfully we were in a rural area, there were more chores than luxuries, and NO SOCIAL MEDIA when we raised our kids, but LOTS of Boomer-generation people like me have FAILED our kids; we worked our butts off to see that they had the best of everything - good neighborhood, good schools (or so we thought), helped them get a decent car, do sports, whatever, and off they went to college on our dime.... then we often saw them become Lib-tards...! Now they are raising our grandchildren, and if we don't involve ourselves mightily, those kids will be even further 'left'.
GET INVOLVED...!

Someone told me Facebook groups dedicated to a particular calibre/region/hunting style have taken many numbers away from forums. I never got into the FB groups as the posts are linear like the old internet forums started as, one long list of subjects and replies down the page. Forums with sub-forums were hailed as the answer to that confusion.

I guess having all your groups linked to your social media is the attraction for younger folk.

It's still erratic as all get out for me. Seems like it's better early mornings, but if I try in the afternoon it wont work. But sometimes even mornings wont work, so who knows what's causing it. I'm just grateful for the days it functions like it used to do!

This forum has been so unreliable of late that I fear it's driving away members.

What's the issue? Does the site just need to be tweaked or upgraded or something and we don't have anyone to do it, something like that?

Uh Doc, my "grandboys" are men in their 40's, who would be candidates to inject some new blood into the forum if the thing would function reliably...

Thanks! We want it to survive. I've invested in a more capable VPS that should give more capacity and survive the number of "bots" that are hitting the site.

Hang in there, get some more folks online, light it up. Lets see how this does!

I go here and the Frontier Sixshooter board, and a lot of the names are ones that were there when I joined in the early 2000s. We're all getting older, but getting the younger generations involved in anything that's not gamer related is difficult these days.
