More Bullet Casting Yesterday

Post by JimT »

While checking my stock I realized I was low on cast bullets for my .41 Magnum! So yesterday I dug out the NEI mold and ran off 150 or so of the 230 gr. flat-nose bullet. I size these at .410" and they seem to do well in the old sixgun.

I shot these a few years ago .. not sure I can do it now, but we will see

That should do well for anything up to Kodiak bear.

I have a very similar if not the same 41 mould, I really need to work up a load with in for my Henry.

Jim, if I might ask - what is your powder of choice?

That's a handsome and capable bullet Jim. I remember communicating with Walt Melander at NEI many years ago, early in my casting career. He seemed to be very well thought of. As I recall, his daughter tried to keep the company going for a while after Walt died.

Gunny .. With the 230 gr. NEI I use 2400 or Unique and for years I have been using WC820 (military surplus H110) with the 210 gr. XTP. That's about the only loads I use in the .41 Magnum.

I always liked doing business with him. I had more than a couple of his molds and liked them. I remember his daughter attempting to keep it going. I don't know what happened that it did not work out, although I am sure it would not have been an easy chore. When we moved to Mozambique I sold and gave away a lot of my reloading stuff, keeping enough to "feed" the guns I kept. I am happy I did. Some of that old stuff just cannot be replaced!

2400 I have, I'll give the data a peek. I've tried 800x, CFEPISTOL, 4227, Lilgun. The Lilgun produced 1800+fps from my Henry with very good accuracy at 50. Of course that's with jacketed bullets.
Thanks Jim.

I shot this today ... It was the best of 5 groups. The worst was about 3" .. I seem to put 3 or 4 together and then pull one or two out.
