Re: Discussion of CWD
Here in Missouri we are beginning to see more cases. Actually 2 years ago I had the privilege, so to speak, of taking the first confirmed case of CWD in Barton County MO. This was the first year they'd begun testing in our county. Since then they've had more cases. Not sure about other's experiences but my buck looked and acted normal. He was making a scrape when I shot him and appeared perfectly healthy.
After confirming CWD the Conservation department collected my deer from the processor and took it to Columbia MO to be incinerated. Interestingly, upon mentioning the processor had planned to incinerate any infected deer the MDC agent explained, "They can't get it hot enough to kill the prions. Columbia is the nearest incinerator that can get hot enough."

Prions are strange.
You can't kill them - because they aren't alive...!!!
But they are deadly.
All they are is "misfolded proteins"....but they cause OTHER proteins to mis-fold. Kina creepy.

Re: Discussion of CWD
It has affected my interest in hunting to a significant degree, CWD has been found all over the state.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-
Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

Re: Discussion of CWD
The same for me. We have it here in Northwestern Arkansas and every year for the last 4 or 5 years the CWD Zones has increased.
I still hunt but I when I kill one I make sure to send the head in to get tested and I don't eat any of the meat until I get the results back. Still makes me wonder if it's safe to eat.

Same here. The last year or so I have lost a lot of my desire to deer hunt. And I too won't eat any deer that hasn't been tested.

Re: Discussion of CWD
I spent the 1st 45 minutes of the video searching the internet for definition of terms and such. Sounds a lot like Mad Cow Disease for deer. but, still more to learn... Kinda disheartening when the experts are baffled. It sounds also like we're decades behind in the research.
