Original Winchester 92’ rear tang screw size

Post by weiler »

Adding a Marbles tang sight to a 92’ in 25-20. The marbles screw kit includes a 12-28 rear screw which is too tight to fit in the originals threads. Anybody know what the original size is? The marbles screw’s threads measure .210” vs the original factory screw measuring .206” on the threads.

They are 12-28 but they were designed before industry standards. Some variations exist.

I would polish the screw down to Winchester diameter. Try it .
If its still too tight buy an adjustable die to chase the screw until it screws in easily.

Do NOT modify the Winchester receiver.

Another option is buy tang sight screw from Homestead ask them to confirm it fits in Winchester tang. They have actions to try it in.

Make sure its adjustable with slot .The solid die probably want change anything. Plus you will need to polish thread tops to match WRA screw too.
