Anyone out there with Quickload?

I am a conservative handloader and have never ventured into extrapolating load workups, so maybe someone with this program can help. I want to load CFE-223 under a 100-grain spitzer in my Model 8 in .25 Remington.
Many sources say .25-35 data is safe in the slightly larger capacity .25 Remington case. I see Hodgdon lists a starting load of 25.0 grains of CFE-223 under the Hornady 117-grain RN for 2,179 fps in the .25-35, and a max load of 28.5 giving 2,404 fps. The only other data they list with this powder is for the 75-grain Speer with a starting load of 30 grains and a max of 33 giving 2,800 fps at 31,000 CUP, and a max load of 35 grains for the little jacketed 60-grain bullet at 2,951. I emailed Hodgdon and they were no help.
Case capacity of the .25 Remington is said in numerous places to be 44 grains of water. Gracias in advance if someone has QL.
With 100-grain spitzers, Ken Waters got 2,613 with 30 grains of IMR 4064 and 2,579 with 28 grains of good old IMR 3031 back in 1973, so I am thinking 2,600 fps ought to be in reach with CFE-223.

Best I can do for you with QuickLOAD is as follows: -

32.6 gn which gives 89.5% of case capacity.
Predicted velocity 2635 fps
Pmax listed as 3050 bar - this load predicted as 2573 bar.

Hope that helps.
I have never loaded this cartridge so can not say with any certainty that this load will be safe. QuickLOAD gives theoretical predictions.

Without pressing my luck, does anyone know how measurements in bar correlate with copper units of pressure? Google AI says it can't be done.

That 2573 BAR is 37,318 psi. There's no direct conversion as the copper crusher method isn't linear across a wide range.

Thanks Rimfire. I think I'll load a sample with 30 grains of CFE-223 and see how the rifle functions with it.
What is it about these old Browning designs that is so appealing -- this one built in 1912?

Yeah, I think I wouldn't go much over 38Kpsi with that one. Nice pre-Great War Remington.

I decided to dig for and reload Quickload on my computer. Took me a while to find the program...thinking I had thrown it in the trash a few years ago.

What I need to do is learn how to customize a bullet. Has anyone added any of the 44 caliber Accurate Molds to the list?

What I want to do is compare CIP to CUP and PSI results for the 44-40. May take a while to relearn the program.

I am working on the bullet file data....I need to edit some fields

Bill, this is what I did to make QL match the physical PressureTrace II test results. Technically I upped the pressure to 11,000 psi for a MAX load.

Boy there is a lot of data measured by Quickload!
I tried cleaning the spout with a paperclip and got no where, but I guess I need to plug her in and try again, harder. This is a virtually new Production Pot. Shouldn't have given away my old one.

Too much in my book. I can get the pressures to match my pressures but I mainly have to tweek the H2O and initial powder burn settings.

So basically in order to get QL to work "properly" you still need an accurate, actual pressure tested, result as a control.

Download a free ballistic program from Gordon's Reloading Tool website. I've been using it for years, and once you get used to the program it will give you more info than you probably ever knew you needed!

You haven't put your bullet in properly. You're missing the shot start pressure. It's in BAR in the text file that is the bullet data. Notice that you have a shot start pressure in the upper right window of zero (0). Not good.

Here's an example line from the Lee bullet file ...

".312, 185, LEE C312-185-1R ","185","1.076","","","","","",".312",".247",".247","","","","","","","","","","8"

Notice that "8" at the end of the line. That represents an 80 BAR shot start pressure or 1160psi which is for a cast lead bullet.

There is a lot of things I didnt edit. It was just a quick snap shot for discussion. Basically it means you can only get good data out, if you put good data in....still a bunch of guess work by itself.

I'll take my strain gauge data any day over just computed numbers.
