I think it was the Second Shootists Holiday .... I had one of those boxes the military used to store and transport WillyPete (white phosphorus). I had this box full of loaded .45 Colt ammo. I had loaded every cartridge I had including the cracked ones ... some with nearly full-length cracks. At the Holiday I got Bud McDonald and said, "C'mon! Let's shoot all these!" AND WE DID! Every last one of them. IN ONE SESSION.
Bud never forgot it. Neither did I.
The Holiday this year, Bud grabs me and says, "Come with me." We walk up to where he is parked on the firing line. He sets down two camp chairs with a 50 BMG Ammo Box between them that was pretty full of .38 Specials. He handed me Terry Murbach's .357 sixgun and said, "We are gonna shoot all these in memory of old friends and of the time we shot that WillyPete box full of .45's."
And we did!
Well ... when they ran us off firing line 'cuz they were closing down to eat we had about 20 rounds left. But for two old f.art.s it was close enough.
You can see the end of the ammo can and some of the empties laying on the cloth ...

Jim,
Thank you for sharing! Those are memories worthy of foreverdom in cyber space, and for those of us who will get together and say, "hey you remember the time Jim and Bud shot up that 50 BMG ammo can full of 38s?"

Jim, that's a wonderful memory all right. Thanks for sharing it.

Re: A Memory From The Shootists Holiday
Fun stuff...a .50 can is a lot of .38's.
One of my shooting pards of years past was big on parking in a couple camp chairs and making up silly shooting challenges while telling each other ridiculous BS stories, good times.

Yep. I kinda like "Hey! Let's sit down and shoot awhile."

That's a wonderful memory Jim.
My favorite times shooting are with friends and frequently include mementos from passed on friends or mentors. Keeping a friend's memory alive by telling stories about them as you shoot their favorite guns or burn ammo loaded with their components is a noble endeavor.
