Who bought the last guns you sold?
While its good to make money off a sale sometimes its satisfying to see who it goes to. I recently sold off 2 x 357 Rossi 92, one to a mobile butcher who wanted to move up from killing animals with his 22LR. Another fella ran a 44 mag marlin as his main hog hunting gun and wanted something a bit smaller for his kid to learn on. Just seemed like two worthy purposes.

Re: Who bought the last guns you sold?
8 years ago I sold my Winchester/Browning model 70 300 Win Mag BOSS to my youngest brother. Still kick myself to this day, but at least I can still shoot it.
Lesson learned. First and last firearm I have ever sold.

I've gotten so upset with myself for selling guns that I miss now that I don't sell guns any more, I just buy them.

Sold two of my old Rolling Blocks in the last couple weeks. One went to the son of a guy I knew, and the other to a friend. Both were happy to get them, and I was happy they went to good homes.

I sold a really nice 2.5" round butt S&W model 19 a couple years ago. I wasn't hot to sell it but I made quite a profit to finance part of a Colt SAA.
I met the guy in a parking lot for the sale, and he was a very nice older gentleman. He had his wife with him and was super happy with the Smith. He was a S&W collector and I was happy to see it go to such a good home. We talked guns for an hour and a half.
It doesn't always go like that.

Re: Who bought the last guns you sold?
I sold a RUGER blackhawk .44 mag this year , and I have a 45/70 for sale now .
They go tru a small ffl in monroe , nice people , I tell him how much I want out of it and he gets it done.
I’m using the money to buy smaller calibers , hard kickers are no fun anymore , I really enjoy .22’s and 32’s now .

Sold guns are nothing but regret.
Re: Who bought the last guns you sold?
I agree 100%.
Re: Who bought the last guns you sold?
I only regret purchases , had a pathfinder the saved me a-lot of money on targets , it never put a hole in one reliably , don’t know where they went but it wasn’t to the target , sold it . Had a mini 14 for half a box worth , hated how loud it was , it went. Got a NAA .22 convertible , cute gun , can’t hit squat with it , it’s going soon .Have a Win .375 , a couple marlin .44s that maybe going also, had shoulder surgery two months ago , and don’t need the punishment, and no regrets about any.

Re: Who bought the last guns you sold?
Last time I sold a firearm was 1988 after my daughter was born as I didn't have the money for 2 kids so my collection was sold off to fund the family. When I started buying again when I had more funds some 15 years later, I had a great idea of what platforms I wanted and so I bought what I wanted and have kept them all. The only losses to my collection were to my son who "liberated" a 1911 and an AR.

Re: Who bought the last guns you sold?
Although I was always careful to do due-diligence so as not to sell one to anyone 'shady', after 50 years of gun ownership, I seldom sell anything now other than to friends or relatives who I think will truly appreciate the firearm, or occasionally I'll sell a more 'generic' gun that I'm not emotionally invested in, to a gun shop on consignment. Not a way to recoup much money on a lifetime of investment, but right now we still have an ATF that considers a $5.00 profit on a gun that you bought 20 years ago to be 'engaged in the business', even though inflation more than offset any true 'profit', so I suppose it's ok. It would make me mad though if I were a major collector and felt I had to sell everything at a 'loss' just to keep out of jail. The ATF is a criminal enterprise that probably puts us at more risk than the criminals do, in the long run.

Re: Who bought the last guns you sold?
We've got one local horse trader who constantly posts guns for sale online with "not making money, selling for less than I paid". I'm sure if the ATF ever checks into him that little phrase will make it all go awayAJMD429 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:08 pm Not a way to recoup much money on a lifetime of investment, but right now we still have an ATF that considers a $5.00 profit on a gun that you bought 20 years ago to be 'engaged in the business', even though inflation more than offset any true 'profit', so I suppose it's ok. To a neighbor who works in the Back Country in Alaska as a crane operator on a new Oil field. He mentioned he was looking for a 30-30 (4 months ago), and I had two Remlins I had gotten at an estate sale that were unfired, so I gave him his choice. He has 6 years in the Army with a unit I played with in Iraq.

I haven't sold any. My kids have gotten a few. And they will get the rest when my wife and I are gone.

You might keep better records than me, but I can’t remember what I pod for a bunch of mine so it’d be hard to accuse me of making a profit because nobody including myself knows what I paid for them lolAJMD429 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:08 pmAlthough I was always careful to do due-diligence so as not to sell one to anyone 'shady', after 50 years of gun ownership, I seldom sell anything now other than to friends or relatives who I think will truly appreciate the firearm, or occasionally I'll sell a more 'generic' gun that I'm not emotionally invested in, to a gun shop on consignment. Guns aren't made for selling...they're made for buying!!

Re: Who bought the last guns you sold?
agree. I've only sold a couple and regret them.
the last gun I sold was to a forum member here. a winchester big bore 375. sold it through the classifieds section of this site. Don't remember who. Someone in the northwest I think. Washington or oregon. I had spent a ton of money buying components for it during the obama drought. oh well. hope someone is enjoying it.
