One Keeper and one maybe.

Post by 2ndovc »

First decent weather we've had in a while.
Grabbed a couple of new .22s and a box of older Remington Golden Bullet ammo and had some fun.

The Ruger Single Ten is definitely a keeper! The two flyers are my fault, but there's a few doubles that are right on top of each other.
Just happened to have the perfect holster in my leather bin. A San Pedro Saddlery cross draw that I've had for 20 pus years fit perfectly.
The action is pretty stiff, but it will get better after a couple hundred rounds that I don't see is going to take long. :D
Not wild about the "Lite-Brite" style inserts in the otherwise nice sights, but I'm going to leave them for now.

The Walther P22 didn't shoot the Remington ammo well, so I'll try a few more brands from my stash and see if it improves.
Other than the poor accuracy, the pistol worked well. No failures to feed ore extract, so I'll give it another chance.

I'll second the dislike of fiber optic sites!
Sharpie marker time Jason
I'd bet the Walther will shoot a different brand better than that.
I remember those golden bullets used to shoot so much better , I wonder what the new Remington Ranch Hand does on paper?

You were right.
I ran about 20 rounds of CCI Mini Mags through the Walther today. It was a better group, but still need to find the right bullet.
I'm thinking that since the barrel is threaded and it's set up for a suppressor, that a standard velocity bullet may group better.
Couldn't find them in the barn, but there's a boatload of .22s out there.

Still no failures of any kind, so I'm thinking I'll keep it and keep working on it for that suppressor I want.

My Single Ten is quite the shooter also. I think I read somewhere that the hammer forged barrels on these are 1-15 twist. I like this front sight on my Single Six's. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1004313733?pid=187825
