Most physicians either ignore the topic entirely (takes too much time, and 95% of us are 'employees' and must keep averaget time-in-room under five minutes, plus the topic is complex and requires integrative thought processes versus blindly following algorithms), or they turn into sales-reps for whatever supplement company they hook-up with, and tell everyone that brand is the ONLY decent brand, and of course they get a mark-up on that brand. I'm all for capitalism, and selling stuff is standard fare for the US, but there should be a level of integrity or transparency at least.
However I do think there are actually some supplements (which really are just concentrated 'foods' in most cases) can indeed be VERY useful.
There are only about half a dozen internet podcasters and publishers I really trust, but Rhonda Patrick seems to me to be quite honest and very well informed.
This is a recent interview of her I found summarized a lot of the major supplements in a sensible way:

Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen her yet. I have a few Youtube docs I watch. Sure can't pay any attention to my VA pusher.

Re: Some sound information on 'supplements'
One of my Battalion Surgeons gave me this list back in 2002 before the deployment to Iraq, and I have been taking them ever since. He added two tablets of Centrum Multi vitamins to the list a couple of years later.
Antioxidants:
Vitamin C 1000 milligrams
Vitamin A (water soluble beta-carotene) 10,000 units
Vitamin E 400 units
CoQ10 50 milligrams
selenium (for your prostate) 200 micrograms
For your joints
Glucosamine/MSM/Chondroitin 1 capsule
Calcium (in the form of generic antacid tablets) 750 milligrams
For your brain
Gingko Biloboa 60 milligrams
Omega-3 Fatty Acids 1000 milligrams
For sleep if you need it:
Melatonin ( 1/4 of a 3.0 milligram tablet or) 0.75 milligrams
