Cold Weather RABBITS Snowshoe Hare

I read somewhere to only meat hunt rabbits when its COLD due to some disease they carry in warmer months can make us sick.

Anybody familiar w that.

I hunt Maine.
Looking to get out there this October w my kid.

In summer rabbits may have bot-fly warbles under the skin. Thus the old custom of only hunting rabbits during months with an R.

Tularemia. I only hunt rabbits around here with a month that has an R, for rabbit in it.

It's a real deal, I've known folks who had it.
