This setup seems to be as perfect as it gets in my opinion. I’m loving this levergun more and more!
I used the front sight as is. Turned the stem down one full turn and it hits to the center of the bead at 25 yards. I’ll probably screw it back out 1/2 turn to get closer to the top of the bead at that range.

I prefer aperture sights on pretty much ALL firearms - carbines for sure, actually PISTOLS too. Full-size rifles I usually scope anyway.

I've tried both Skinner and XS on different platforms. This is solely personal preference, but I like XS. If you look closely, you'll see that my sight is mounted backwards. Why? Because I found that it works best for my eyes. As the old saying goes "different strokes for different folks". You know, we actually were pretty enlightened back in the 60's and 70's.

That Skinner rear peep with a gold, white or fiber dot front is just about perfect on a lot of platforms. I used the rear with a white fit on a shortened (16.5”) Ruger no1 in 50-110. Very handy and quick sight acquisition
