Stuck bullet!

Post by Nath »

Some kind gent sent me some Winchester 180 gn silver tips for recycling, a free service I run for any unwanted 308" bullets.

I loaded some up with red dot underneath them but the second shot failed to shoot it out with just 2" of barrel left to go!
5.5gn just ran out of steam for this 24" barrel.

I returned home and stripped the rifle to get a brass rod in from the breech. The bullet tapped out with just the rods weight thankfully.

So I tried 6.5gn next but na, very inconsistent so next up I reached for the unique. Unique never fails and the first run worked perfectly 7.5gn!
60yd group.
A good rabbit load!

.
Good reason not to ever fire a gun 'as fast as you possibly can' unless it is necessary. Too easy to pile on a second bullet and mess things up.

Problem is, even when you have to fire fast this kind of stuff can happen. And you better darned well have some sort of backup.

Alliant is having major issues getting nitrocellulose so a lot of their powders are not offered currently. Hopefully if they start getting the materials again they'll bring back most of the powders they've halted production on now.
