I have looked at several, and though they seem nice I’d be hesitant to buy one because $1100 is getting close to New Haven made, Pre-64 money. Particularly if you want a 30-30 or 32 WS. The Miroku jobs might make more sense if you wanted a harder to find caliber like 38-55 or 450 Marlin.

I have considered them and if they made the model I wanted, I might buy one. I'm strictly looking at one to use. I've looked over several of the older ones that fit the bill for what I like, but most have not had what I would call a "good" bore. I'm looking for a 30-30 or 32 Special. There was a 32 Special advertised here that I considered but it was not the model I like, but appeared very nice in all other respects. I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to buy a commemorative. They have great wood, great bores, they are drilled and tapped for a receiver sight and no safety. In my opinion they have more value even as a user than one of the new production models. And they can be had for about the same $.

The modern 94, 92 , 86 are probably better metallurgy but some of the esthetics just don't suite me. Don't like all that goofy warnings and safeties. Usually sights are kinda cheap too.

The new Miroku/Winchester 94s are not my cup of tea especially for one main reason: The Angle Eject. Back in about 1983 when the AE hit the market, the 94 was still intended to compete with many other rifles by making it to be a scope compatible arm. In the meantime, the lever gun has taken a back seat for hunting. I may be wrong about this, but most lever action gunners are traditionalists who most likely will never scope a 94. So what's the point of still have a 94 AE? I've written to Winchester emphasizing this but never got a reply..... (of course not). They know the answer, they just can't acknowledge it.

IMO the 94 would have been selling better since production was shifted to Japan if the top ejection had been reinstated and made the gun more original. Yeah, that pesky rebounding hammer and tang safety would have to be there to make the lawyers happy, but those two things can be done away with fairly easily with some parts swapping. That's my thinking anyway.

If S&W can do away with the key lock safety in their revolvers, there's no reason why Winchester can't get rid of thumb safeties and rebounding hammers on lever actions.

If you want an original configuration machine then either buy a pre-64 or one of the higher-end modern repros.

If what you want is something to take into the woods hunting… a utility rifle… then you’ll be fine with either a Miroku or a post-64.

I have a recently built 1892 SRC .357 I like a lot, but it needed a tang sight to be useful to me hunting.

If you go post-64 94, be careful of which year… avoid the pot-metal eras… all that. I do have a 1990 Winchester 94AE .30-30 I am very happy with. I don’t mind the AE or rebounding trigger or tang safety one bit… my trigger is pretty darn good, actually… crisp and not too heavy, and having a manual safety in heavy brush makes me happy. I put an XS LeverScout Rail & XS Ghost-Ring on it, with a Skinner White Sourdough front sight, and I have two optics sighted in on it, a Burris 2-7 Scout Scope and a Holosun 507C-GR-X2 ACSS GDS (green dot sight with chevron reticle). It’s a great little rig, and I use it for deer and coyote without worrying about collector value or marring some kind of repro perfection, although it remains in great shape, clean and pretty anyway lol.

If I were to want a new .30-30 Winchester mdl 94... I'd be tempted to buy a Uberti 1894. I coon-fingered one a while ago and was impressed.

I'd love to see and handle a Uberti 94. There doesn't seem to be much info on them out there. There have been a couple of videos depicting them but seem to be Uberti promotional videos. One US video I ran across by "Adventure Cowboy" trying a 38-55 version of it is all I could dig up on this side of the pond.

Another 30-30 that we haven't heard much about is the Pedersoli Droptine, a 30-30 in an 86 action. Anyone have experience with either the Uberti or Pedersoli you'd like to share?

I acquired two Winchester 94s, one 30-30 and one 94AE .44 mag, at an estate sale. I traded the 30-30 for a Marlin in Buckhannon, WV, and put Skinner sights on the 94 AE. I try to take a kid hunting for the first time in WV on youth day (when I can as it is a long drive now) and the Marlin with a scope is easier to train them to shoot. I have given away three over the years and have one left after a friend talked me out of one last month with Skinner Sights. The .44 carbine is just too handy to part with and has yet not been fired. I have a Marlin 44 Mag I bought for my daughter in the mid-80s that gets the abuse. I like the side ejects a bit more.

This. I was in a stand yesterday morning at 3:45am hunting coyotes and reflected hard on how much handier my 94 is than the suppressed AR-15 I was holding. I do cringe every time my rifle bumps something hard, though, and often think to myself “well, that would have left a mark on a wood stock”. It’s tough to balance all the things, and my 94 would be a lot less handy with a suppressor and thermal optic on it, I guess…

I bought a NIB Buffalo Bill Rifle from my cousin who had it for 40+ years in his safe. He got it from his FIL who owned a Gambles store back in the 60's-early 70's and it never sold. I had tried to buy it for years, and/or get him to take it out shooting, but he said it would ruin the collector value. I told him that Winchester made 20K or more of the things and it wasn't much of a collector I've ever felt in any of my leverguns, and accurate to boot. I also shoot my Chief Crazy Horse in 38-55. I bought these rifles because they are neat to look at, don't have the stupid lawyer safety stuff on them, and have new/not worn out barrels. They are great shooters.

Probably my favorite to shoot is a '67 Canadian Centennial that a previous owner converted to a Trapper.

I haven't fussed with the Legendary Lawman or the US Centennial commemoratives, but the '66 Centennial has had a Lyman #2 Tang Peep and 17A Globe front sight added to it... and the 67 Canadian has had Extra Fancy wood added and silver plated barrel/mag rings & buttplate added.

My 1971 Mod 94 NRA Centennial 30-30 is the only commemorative edition I've shot & hunted with, have seen others. But I found it in 2019, collector had just sold a big collection, mine unfired part of it. I had long wanted a Mod 64 30-30, and this one is really just that, a Mod 64a which Winchester sold 1971-73, and I knew if I didn't buy it, it probably be my last chance! I can't praise the rifle enough I truly love it, and it's become so a part of me I probably couldn't trade it to any pre 64 Mod 64, which you never really know how it's been shot & treated! Best money I ever spent on a rifle!

I've seen lot these for sale, and they're likely hardly used or even unfired.

I couldn't handle the weird hammer setup. It's a deal-breaker. MUCH rather have a Marlin, or an OLD Winchester.

[slang], i have a winchester ae ranger trapper in 357 with all the weirdness that came with it. it's utterly transparent as far as the function of killing gongs is concerned. out to a measured 100 yards there is no safe zone for them. i don't go, "oh for pity's sake, i can't stand this rebounding hammer" stuff. I just bust targets. And really, if it really is that weird then don't i have a leg up on any aggressor who is laughing too hard to shoot straight? Hmmm? Imagine a 1500 pound Griz rolling on the moss and laughing his [...] off. Besides which, i think i paid around 295 out the door, less than almost anything that can rapid fire 10 rounds of 357 mag. The only time the goofy hammer bothers me is when i am cleaning up the gun to put up for the winter, and i start to think that i could get some parts and turn it into one of it's more original relatives. but then i forget about it, and the AE spends the winter self-identifying as a Real Winchester. What's not to like, eh?

Veeman and Drawdown, you convinced me, I'm going to buy another commemorative. I have a Legendary Lawman and really like it--I pack it and hunt with it, but what I was looking for is a good Model 64, I have a 336C but it's not quite the ticket. So, I'll put a 32 Special, 38-55 or 30-30 Commemorative on my wish list now. Maybe a NRA like Drawdown has or a Canadian Pacific Railroad in 32 Special.

My commemorative is only one I know much about, but I do know mine is a quality gun, and I haven't been looking any, but I've seen a decent number of them for sale since I got mine up to about 2 years ago, since Idk? But mine doesn't have the rebounding hammer, the receiver is blackened chrome steel, not the Sintered Steel of the post 64's, and the lifter is a quality metal! Best part, it shoots everything I've put in it very accurately barrel clean & cool or as fast as you want chug em, and better loads are very accurate, and every deer that taunts it has dropped dead  With the sling & 5 cartridges in it I believe it's still barely 7lb, this I love it's my favorite roaming these mountains! I put a Williams Receiver Sight on it before ever firing it, but I could love the open irons almost as well, I like both! It has that small brass bead on front that is ideal for deer hunting, looking back into dark timber it looks bone white to me, or according to light kinda gold or black in low light. I'd like to have same rifle in a 32Spl, but between the two I'd take 30-30 hands down for an only one! Just got home roamed the woods with it most the day, man finally what a fine day be out!
