Armadillo Terminated

Post by t.r. »

I finally got an early morning shot at the armadillo that has been tearing up our yard. So, I aimed at the neck and squeezed the trigger. Then things got crazy as the animal flipped over and kicked several times. My second shot traversed the chest cavity. And my final shot was through the spine and into the chest organs. TERMINATED!

The quiet ammo I was using is Remington 22 Long (not 22LR) featuring subsonic velocity. Plain blunt tip for the bullet. Henry rifle with Bushnell scope did the job for me.

.
Back when we had more varmints in the chicken coop (pre-electric-fence days) I used Paco's Acu'rzr or however he spells it, to make wadcutter and other kinds of shapes on my factory 22LR ammo - the swaging that accompanies the process also tended to improve accuracy, as well as terminal ballistics.

I posted on it a few years back - https://levergunscommunity.org/viewtopi ... 3c17bc949e

I have misplaced that little device and need to find it, cuz I got GRANDKIDS who will be shooting soon...

If you go to the parent https://www.leverguns.com/ site there is a link for it that I think goes to Paco's merchandise site...???

My big black dog terminated one the other day. There were just little pieces of the shell scattered over the yard.

My son's German Shepherd did that to my daughter's Calico Cat a few years back....little pieces of kitty all over the barn...

Fortunately they both had seen the realities of predator/prey, and farm animals needing euthanized and so on, so it was far less dramatic than it might have been for 'city kids'. (It wasn't too bad until my son and I started snickering about the blatant carnage and 'decoration' that had happened.... :o )

Do you guys concern yourself about leprosy when handling them critters. I’ve heard it could be an issue ?

I wear two rubber gloves when I need to pick one up by the tail . I avoid all direct contact with them and I won't handle any of the dirt where they have been digging .
