So the weather said it was going to start snowing late last night with 1-3 inches falling. When I got up this morning, there was closer to 6, and it was snowing so hard you couldn't see. Supposed to go till noon.
Guess they missed this one a bit.

My wife and I spent the second week of December in Costa Rica. It's a fascinating and beautiful country with plant and animal species very different from what we're used to seeing.

Where did you stay? Weather?

We stayed at a resort on the Pacific side about 50 miles as the crow flies from Liberia. The temps varied from the middle 70s to the middle 80s. We did not get any rain.

Well, things can get back to normal now. Not that we do much for Christmas anyway. Kristy and I didn't do anything here. Christmas Eve our oldest son and his wife came over for dinner and a small gift swap. We went down to our middle sons place to watch our youngest granddaughter open her gifts on Christmas and had dinner with them. We face timed with our youngest son and his family in Alaska. He is laid up from a hip operation from being drug under those Blackhawks for years.
My parents both have covid so they had to sit out with Christmas alone this year. I took a lot of pictures and video of our granddaughter so they could see her open gifts.
It was a little below zero this morning, but it's supposed to warm up this weekend.

It's been very mild here the last few days, I was hoping for a white Christmas that disappeared on boxing day my daughter in law cooked a beautiful meal and my son came up with some interesting beer.

Just a wee bit rare for me but I'd probably enjoy it just the same. I remember finding a small restaurant in Spain that specialized in Beef and they cooked it quite rare but it was delicious still cooked it a little longer when I returned home.

Well it don't sound like a good cure for me. I don't really care for honey, or sweets in general.
However, if you boys think the other ingredient could help, even if it's a small chance, please let me know.

Put some local honey in the tea or whatever. Chemistry/physiology doesn’t care what you know of think.

Just apply more alcohol to take the taste of the honey away and add more lemon juice for the vitamin C, keep taking the mixture until you feel better or until you have forgotten who you are and why you're taking it....

I decided instead that I'd attempt to hit the range today.
It warmed up to the mid 30s today, and I figured if I could make it the mile or so in I'd do some shooting. It isn't plowed in the winter, so it would be a crapshoot. I just took a rifle I needed to zero and my 4.75" Colt SAA .45. I loaded 50 of the Acme 250gr coated bullets for the Colt, and wanted to try them. I loaded them over my usual 8gr of Unique.
I had to do some wheeling to get in but I made it. Needless to say, I was the only one there. The rifle didn't take long, and I ran a quick 40 rounds through it on steel.
I brought a target stand along for the Colt and put it up at 12 yards to see how it would work. Every time I go awhile without shooting a 45 Colt, the first round always surprises me with how stout this old cartridge really is.
This Colt shoots well, but is still new, and the trigger isn't the best. I struggle with an SAA if the trigger isn't good. More so than with other handguns. After a cylinder or so, I settled down some but was still hitting low left (definitely me). For this group, I rested my forearms on my range bag but didn't support the pistol. I got this inch and a sixteenth group. It still is a little left. The front sight was held to the bottom of the dot.
I made a few hits on 8" steel plates at 50 yards without too much trouble. I made one or 2 at 100 yards, but that was just luck.
I think if I get the trigger cleaned up, this is going to work pretty well. I'll have to try these in my old 1st gen 5.5" too. I'd wished I'd brought it along.

Haha yeah. Mid 30s was the best I could hope for around here for a while. I have another load with the coated bullets to try in 44 magnum too. Probably should have brought it today, but I didn't know if I could make it in. Plus, I want to chrono it and try it in several guns.

Thanks my friend. Oddly enough, as much as I love the Colt single action army, I struggle shooting single actions when compared to other handguns. My hands are a little large for the 1851/SAA frame. I'd have been better served if they'd of used the 1860 frame for the SAA. Because my grip is awkward, any trigger issues have a huge effect.
I will most likely drop my charge to 7 grains and load a bunch of practice ammo to just run through it and see what happens. It's brand new after all.
I just dread sending it out for trigger work. However, after seeing the potential, I'm sorely tempted.
Its a huge PIA, but I just love the SAA. It's one of the best looking handguns ever made. All the history is just a bonus.

I like the grip frame of the Navy over the Army but then I have smaller hands, I have to agree about the SAA being one of the best looking handguns..

Have the same SAA, you are right on shooting them. The Smiths are better for me. I had a couple 7 1/2” New Frontiers 44 and 45 at one that may have been the easiest for accuracy..

The only New Frontier I've had or shot is the .22. I was a junior in HS when I got it I think. I've shot and carried it a lot over the years. It's been a great revolver, and I much prefer it to a single six.

I get along better with single actions because the hump at the top of the grip on double actions bumps the base of my thumb where I have arthritis. I love em all but I shoot single actions more.

I'm going shooting this morning. Yay! I'll take single actions in .44 special and .45 Colt as well as a Marlin 94 Cowboy in .45 Colt. It's gonna be a bit nippy at 27°, The biggest pain is driving my gong posts into the frozen ground....bigger hammer.

Well, back to work tonight. Between using up my time off for last year and being sick, I haven't been in what seems like a long time.
But not long enough.

It's not very big 4" closed 3" blade and very inexpensive I think they are less than $15 in the states

Having to go back to work is a drag, although I'm retired I still have bad dreams about it even now.
My son has put a deposit on a Howa rifle in .243 and is hoping the guy still has a neat o/u 20 gauge that looks interesting with a straight stock and double triggers. He can't collect until he goes south to see his niece and her new baby in a couple of weeks.

I find I rarely carry pocket knives in the classic sense anymore. The last 20 years or so, it's just single blade folders with a pocket clip. Kinda sad really, but they work so well for me.
Back in the day, I usually carried a small 2 blade pocket knife (something I'd usually found and fixed up or scrounged somewhere) and a Buck 112 folder on my belt. The 112 was one if the first things I ever bought with money I earned. It's got a lot of miles on it but I still have it. I rarely wear knives like this because the spot is usually occupied by a pistol or revolver these days. The other side usually has a spare mag or some such.
It's too bad really, cause this was a very useful arrangement I utilized from childhood till my early 20s. Back in thise days, everyone wore a Buck 110, 112, or a cheap knockoff everywhere. Even in school. Nobody cared Back then. We all had Skoal rings in our jeans or a pack of Beech Nut.
Man, that was a long time ago.

As a young whippersnapper I carried a pocket knife as well. That was in the early 60s and during lunch we played games like Chicken or one called Mumblypeg. Of course I was a youngster at that time but the older boys all had rifles or shotguns in the rifle racks of their trucks they drove to school. No problem, ever....it was accepted in the small town where we kids grew up. Another fad when I was in elementary school was tops. They were wooden with a steel spike at the small end and were thrown hard with yellow nylon string giving them spin. The object was to push other players' tops out of a chalk circle on the sidewalk. The ultimate goal was to land your top on another player's and split it in two. That led to a fistfight or two.

I never heard of snuff like Skoal or Copenhagen in those days but chewing tobacco like Red Man and Beech Nut were popular.

You pre-date me a bit Walt. We were running wild in the mid 70s to mid 80s, but Maine is a bit back in time when compared to many places.
We all lived in town, so we didn't run full time with powder burners till we could drive. Prior to that, we used wrist rocket slingshot to good effect. Usually with home cast 45cal round balls. We also had pellet guns that we carried everywhere. It was like the old west in our neighborhood, and you never left the house unarmed. I saved some money and bought a Co2 pistol to go along with my pellet gun. The rifles are kind of like a muzzle loader in that it's some time between shots. I figured the pistol gave me good firepower and a quick follow up. My dad made me a shoulder holster for it and I could carry it anywhere discreetly as long as I had a cover garment.
We had quite a life back in the day. When school let out in summer, I never spent a night in my bed till school started back up. We slept in tents all summer, and found all kinds of mischief. I still live in the same place, and to this day dig BBs and pellets out of stuff.

Temperature has been below freezing for the last few days and this morning we got about 3" of snow.

As a kid I always had a pocket knife or fixed blade on me and so did everyone else back then, now if you pull out even a Swiss Army knife some people gasp in horror all the kids I hung around with had airguns, slingshots or bows, we spent all our time outdoors we even found an off licence (liquor store) where we could buy beer but we were grown up 13 year olds by then we all piled in there one day wearing masks and brandishing a starting pistol the lady laughed and said you can't scare me I used to work in Chicago and then gave us all a half pint of bitter I hate to think what would happen nowadays.

Yup. We were always scrounging up beer, cigars or whatever. We were quite the juvenile delinquents.
I still have all my BB and pellet guns, sling shots, knives, all of it. Got my first BB gun for Christmas when I was 3.
Once we were driving, we took "the show on the road". Then we had guns. I got my first concealed carry permit. My dad went down and got it from the police chief for me. It was dated 3 days BEFORE I turned 18 . That stuff dont happen anymore. We shot up the countryside with gusto. Out 4 wheeling, fishing trips, pit parties......
It's a wonder nobody got killed.

First BB gun at 3 darn it you beat me by a year my father gave me his old BB gun when I was 4 funny thing is it has took me 72 years to find out it is a Markham King mod 21.
