Pictures of my Outdoorsman
I thought I would post some pictures of my Outdoorsman. I like S&W revolvers and when I spied this one in my Gunshop I had to buy it, and they didn't know what it was nor did I. I like researching and this was a fun revolver to study. It has some custom upgrades, and I also noticed a small welding spatter ball on the hammer. I think someone may have welded a wide target hammer pad to the existing hammer back in the day. Very good work done on this 1930's revolver, I think. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I thought the light reflector on the front sight is cool idea.

They are neat revolvers. My ex inherited one from a late uncle and I had the fun of looking it up and finding out what it was. Lots of wear from use, but mechanically just fine.

Re: Pictures of my Outdoorsman
The Outdoorsman was also called the .38/44 because it was an N frame like a 44, but chambered in .38 Special. They could handle any .38 Special round made back then, and still can handle any modern .38 +P made today!
That front sight is interesting. Seems awfully tall and wonder how the point of aim will be firing it?
This is my .38/44 Outdoorsman:

Mine was purchased new in 1953 by a friend's father, and he purchased an extra barrel and cylinder with it then thinking he might shoot it so much he'd eventually shoot it out. Unfortunately he didn't live long enough to do so.

Thanks for sharing. Looks to be a museum piece. What a beauty. Thanks for the info. It’s fun to try different loads. I am going to load some Hornady 158 gr xtps and see how they shoot. The front sight has King on it. King must have been a custom gunsmith who specialized in target upgrades.
Re: Pictures of my Outdoorsman
That's a good one, congratulations. Yes, King's Gunworks was known for the reflector front sights, along with "lopsided" asymmetric target hammers and triggers. I've never managed to get hold of an actual .38-44 despite one being on my wish list, so have to make do with an old 6" Highway Patrolman.
