New Look for My 45-70

Post by jkbrea »

I've had a Leupold FX II scout scope on my 45-70 for years. I never really liked it on there but for elk it's way more accurate than iron sights. Recently with more wolves and grizzlies I wanted something I could sight in fast with. I put a Holosun red dot on it. I love it. I can hit out to 300 which is perfect for elk hunting. I practiced quick shots out to 20 yards and the dot pops right up. The scope took a couple seconds more which I didn't like. Another big plus is a little less weight and I can carry it one handed easily. And it doesn't look as goofy in my opinion.

Interesting. With aging eyes I went from this to a Leopold scout scope.

Looks good. And has to save a bunch of weight. I have a few scout scope equipped rifles. Normally, I shoot them pretty well. For whatever reason, I could do nothing with your Marlin when the boys and I visited. I embarrassed myself! :D
I'm using a Turnbull mount and a Burris FF3 on this 94 Trapper this year. I set one up for my dad a few years ago and it worked really well, so I ordered another for myself. It's very unobtrusive and adds no weight.

So didn't we! Sadly, we were on a fairly tight schedule that trip. We love the area, and would like to get back out there. I will definitely reach out if we do. When it's just us boys we'll have more time for "fun stuff". :D
And it goes without saying, if you ever get up to Maine, please reach out. There's plenty to see and do.
