Just goes to prove you don't have to be competent to hold a position!
I'm sure they'll blame the Rust armorer.

And the way he walked around the table like he was going to ask what happened!

Saw that one yesterday. He definitely wasn't going to be walking that one off!

I got a "data breach" warning when I clicked on Jim's link? Closed it and didn't try to go any further.

I do not know why they pulled it down. It was a skeet shoot .. a match ... and one of the judges walked up to the unloading bench, had the shotgun pointed at one of the contestants, and as he went to unload it he touched it off at 10 or 15 feet into the guys hip.

Wow....I shot Skeet nearly every week for years. never saw a skeet field with a table , no shooter ever loaded His gun until He was on the station ready to call for the bird. It looked like a bad episode of the 3 stooges. This will no doubt be a video lesson for what Not To do anytime handling a Gun.

"Judge" completely unaware of where the muzzle was pointing.
"Judge" had his finger inside the guard.
"Judge" failed to check and apply the safety.
This accident was avoidable in so many ways. It's hard to imagine anyone who knows which end of a firearm goes against their shoulder making even one of these mistakes. The person who allowed him to assume that much responsibility is as much to blame too.

Rule I was taught early on …don’t point at people and you won’t shoot people.

I hate to say it but I SEE THAT BEHAVIOR ALL THE TIME - and not just from innocent, untrained 'newbies'...
Fortunately the gun usually DOESN'T go off.
That guy will likely be crippled for life, depending on the load. I can't imagine the damage a hunting-level shotgun load would do to a hip/pelvis - the lumbosacral nerves, sciatic nerve, hip joint itself, genitalia, possibly gut perforations, and if an iliac or femoral vessel were opened up he might not make it to the hospital.
TOO MANY PEOPLE are TOO CASUAL when it comes to muzzle control.
I worry this may become more common with all the new gun owners coming on board, although like I said, I see LOTS of this behavior among seaoned gun owners. Not pointing a gun 'intentionally' at someone, or even 'directly', but passing the muzzle past them briefly. Sure - if the gun doesn't happen to go off at that instant, no problem, but if it does - potential fatality or crippling.
I hope they don't take the video down (if I knew how to 'download' it to my own computer I would) - it needs watched by everyone just before they go to the range or go hunting.
It would be like the 'virtual' video (just a vividly told story) they told us before our inner-city pediatric clinic rotation, knowing we might be trying to clean out ear wax in screaming infants to 'visualize the tympanic membrane' because the academics told us we should never treat an infant for suspected otitis media without 'fully visualizing both tympanic membranes, even if you have to restrain the infant to clear out the earwax'. (This is typical of the insane and impractical approach of medical academia.) So the real-world doc orienting us to that rotation told a story of how a student was cleaning out wax from an infant and as he looked at the tip of the curette (wax removal tool) he noticed something white, and when he looked at it he recognized a stirrup-shaped thing, which he took to the preceptor. IT WAS A STAPES (middle ear bone)...!!!
I sort of hope that was a made-up story just to keep us from doing harm, but if it was real, it was a horrible tragedy. The inner-city kids with teenage single-moms at that clinic were already facing an uphill battle in life to turn out ok, and being completely deaf in one ear from the start wouldn't help matters. (Nowdays there might be a partial solution with the gadgets they have, but still....)
