That's a beautiful Model 39! The Model 39 is my favorite of the early Marlin .22 leverguns. They pretty much perfected them by the 1920's and 30's, then by late 30's they began those bulbous stocks and round barrells.

Very nice, is that the original finish or has it been refinished? Beautiful work regardless, too bad you can't find one like that anymore.
it appears to be original through out, and looks llke it has not been used very much at all
39's like that have been expensive for a long time .I remember 30 years ago pristine examples were $2500-$3000. Not uncommon to see them in $4-$5k today.
Closest I've came is that 1st year production 39-A with bulbous wood marlinman dislikes. Me I like them all . American made prewar machine at its finest.

I must say Harold, you never indulged in junk…….stuff like that is better than any 401K plan…..I do have one just like yours but the case color is down to maybe 15-20% and another, made in 40 has the stupid looking forearm but it shoots better than anything else I’ve ever had. Both of mine are “S” serial numbered which, as

Thanks buddy……but your stuff is a notch above….while I go for the gold you go for the diamonds….well done! And ya know, living in Alaska really does not give a guy a wide selection so you have gone far and above in the “search and rescue” of fine Winchesters and Colts……do you dabble in single action Colts?…..I’d have to say my favorites of all are 1886’s and first gen Colts, with a smattering of 1873’s, ‘92’s, early Marlins, early N frame Smiths, large frame double action Colts, early Rugers….Ha! It’s a disease but better than any 401K plan.
I have loads of parts if you need anything to make a 3K Winchester into a 6K…..
I noticed your in the “dispersion” era of your life…so am I………it really sucks coming to reality, realizing we are only temporary custodians of Americana…but, as the late great James Serven said, “condition sells.”—-006
It’s been a hell of a ride but one that’s well worth it,
medically , i am boxed into multiple corners.... and the heck of it is , it is all rare weird genetic based problems. i have no weight problem, etc, and my cholesterol etc would make a 12 year old envious.
well, what the heck, i keep on keeping on, but i am really tired of close shaves and near death experiences.
i got to catalog things, and dispose of some stuff. i do have son and daughter who like guns and hunting, so probably they will take some of the best stuff and keep and pass it down to my grandson [ he is 3] , and his sister who is 20 months old.
the 3 year old has already begun to shoot his 22 with me,and his sister will do the same next year.
I envy you! I'm stuck with a '48 and a '77. Hated the fat fore stock so much that I picked up a later skinnier one and sanded it to fit and stuck it on the '48. Most of my shooting/hunting these days is the '77 though with quiet ammo, CB short and long and the quiet stuff.
I’m 70 and my Doc tells me I’m his “best in shape senior patient”……well, the way I see it after around 70 you can e here today and gone tomorrow as my cholesterol is terrible…my body produces lots of it and meds don’t seem to help so I stopped taking everything. I’m in excellent physical shape and can work all day …hard….
Sometimes I can see the vulture circling overhead (people I know) coming in for a windfall. Fortunately a friend of mine is a well known gun auctioneer who is going to handle it….some of the big stuff is going to R.I.A. …soon. My kids have enough money so I’m gonna play with it.
I must admit though, just moving a piece here and there keeps me in plenty of spending loot for my lifestyle, which isn’t much….
Dang Harold…you have a museum up there! A special order of any kind Marlin or Winchester .22 is extremely rare…..more like an “in house special order”……akin to any caliber than .33 or 45-70 in an 1886 Ex.Lightweight…you had to know someone.
Very very nice……I never get jealous …..I congratulate and look at it as a goal. …Any single action Colts?
have no first generation guns. have a great 2nd gen colt 45 that was worked over by bob munden and has carved ivory grips. have a couple of new in the box 3rd gen guns and have 7 new frontiers , two are 2nd gen, the rest are 3 rd gen.
You'll making me sad, actually feel stupid? My 3rd payday after I went to work after HS in 1977, I bought a new Marlin 39a for a squirrel rifle. And it was plenty capable, but I eventually traded it. Sure wish I'd kept it! Man all those are beauties!
