Drone warfare during WW2 - using B17's

Post by AJMD429 »

.
I just found out that although they had to be taken off and airborne by human pilots, that during 1944 there were over a dozen missions attempted where a B-17 would be stripped down and filled with explosive, then flown by remote control to a German Target. Once airborne, the pilot and co-pilot would jump out with parachutes. Apparently none of the missions were very successful though.

Joe Kennedy died piloting one. As a result, his younger brother John took his place as the prospect for President.
