Very well done. Now - try this - load the same bullet with 6 grains of H4227 as a priming and then 32 grains of 3F black powder over the top of it. Seat your bullet to the cannelure as you would normally (and it will be compressing the powder about 0.2 inch) and give it a light crimp. I don't know ...

Ray came through for us. I had no idea it would be quite that high. But 1150 fps with a slug that heavy is certainly respectable. I have shot up to 16 gr of 2400 in this gun, but it was not as accurate with the bullet I was using as the 7.5 gr Unique load. Faster burning pistol powders seem to work...

I finally got the gopro footage downloaded and reviewed. I forgot, I have good results with the 240gr bullet at 100 yards or less. If you want to go further, you may need a 1:20" twist rather than the 1:36" twist barrel.

Original black powder velocities were 1,325fps, slowed to 1,245 by 1900 then back to 1,325 with Smokeless rifle powders in 1894. The .44 may be a pistol caliber BUT the 44-40 is a rifle cartridge that is typically used in revolvers. Stop confusing the difference.

The 44-40 loaded properly for use in rifles will outperform any of those pistol cartridges at 200 yards.
