You might be able to salvage that stock. With an oscillating saw you can plunge cut pieces from under the buttplate to use as laminate or slivers and the dust makes correct filler.

I tape them, stand them on end and using a properly sized block to lay the saw on I use a fine jamb saw to make the cut. I cut from all sides and finish with the middle. This is the type of saw: https://a.co/d/3dlx2ZH

I had a local furniture shop chemically strip it in their chamber * for only $50 and it came out great..
