I passed up one like that last year, but I do have the Lipsey's 45 convertible Flattop. Like yours, I couldn't really find a load it didn't get along with and it was a favorite for traipsing the canyons for a while. I’m surprised there aren’t loads with the likes of RL7 or 4198. Are these too slow? 4198 has actually long been a standard for "Smokeless for Black" recipes, 40% of the BP charge weight of 4198 gets you in the ballpark. Don't know how long it's been around, I lifted it from Ross Seyfried.

I had an old dictionary that still contained those definitions for idiot, moron, etc. There were a whole bunch of other non-PC things in it too. I think the wife tossed it out at some point, evidently I had too much fun reading it.

If I remember correctly, our own much respected tubaman damaged the cylinder ratchets of one of the smaller-framed (flattop) ruger .357s with 180 gr. bullets and sanctioned load data. I've got some 45gr Speers that I've been intending to load in the .223 at Hornet speed myself. Was thinking 2400 but then I started reading up on reduced loads with Blue Dot. Still have some of that around since I quit using it for 357, just need to get on it.

Thanks Six. I was slightly left eye dominant when I was younger but shot enough to train the right eye to take over. Now older, the left eye definitely sees better but I'm being bullheaded about retraining myself - again.

Interesting, looks like a rotating lockup. I've stayed clear of the 5.7 from the standpoint of handloading difficulty. I suspect the Ruger system overworks the brass - not sure, just a hunch. I've been favorably impressed with the M&P already in the conventional chamberings.

When Mike Venturino did the 44 American he used the RCBS American mold that cast at .423, and he reported that it shot fine in his gun. (bore diameter not mentioned but assumed smaller than the .434 nominal from the 44 American specs) He did use cut down .41 brass and RCBS dies.

Yep. My first RH was a 7 1/2" and it had enough heft that is was agreeable to shoot with the factory wood, the shorter barrels not so much.

A while back there was a decent Model 55 Winchester at a local shop for not too much. The reason it was not much was that someone once installed a recoil pad on it but had chopped the stock perpendicular to the toe line on the low side. Made me a little ill.

I was always a tube amp guy, solid state always sounded cold to me. Used a hand truck to haul mine, though I did finally switch to an amp modeler through the board when I played out during the last stretch 10 years ago. The wife-person made sure that no 6, 7, or whatever followed me home. :D

Good point about the pressure drop in the Colt chamber Griff. I've chrono'd the same Cowboy Special load in both cylinders of my Blackhawk and it's 100 fps slower from the Colt cylinder.

Not quite 400, but Hodgdon's online data has a Cast Performance 395 listed at 1024 fps (7.25" barrel) with 14.3 gr of AA9. Pressure below 32k.

Nothing listed for H110 oddly enough.

Any good 45 ACP loading will work well, the main two I currently use are 5.5 of W231 with a 200SWC, and a 225-230 truncated cone over 5.8 Unique.
