I passed up one like that last year, but I do have the Lipsey's 45 convertible Flattop. Like yours, I couldn't really find a load it didn't get along with and it was a favorite for traipsing the canyons for a while. These mid-frame Rugers seem to be consistently the best SA's they've made in years. ...

I’m surprised there aren’t loads with the likes of RL7 or 4198. Are these too slow? 4198 has actually long been a standard for "Smokeless for Black" recipes, 40% of the BP charge weight of 4198 gets you in the ballpark. Don't know how long it's been around, I lifted it from Ross Seyfried.

If I remember correctly, our own much respected tubaman damaged the cylinder ratchets of one of the smaller-framed (flattop) ruger .357s with 180 gr. bullets and sanctioned load data. I’d be interested in hearing more about this. I used to shoot a 180 gr XTP loaded long over a big dollop of Lil Gun...

The attitude of "it's within specs" vs. being perfect is disappointing. A gun should be 100% reliable out of the box, regardless of spec parameters. That's what I've come to refer to as an "80% kit with a serial number". True. But at least with the real 80% kit you get the satis...

Interesting, looks like a rotating lockup. I've stayed clear of the 5.7 from the standpoint of handloading difficulty. I suspect the Ruger system overworks the brass - not sure, just a hunch. I've been favorably impressed with the M&P already in the conventional chamberings.

Yes I did, figured that I'd acknowledged that by adding parenthetically "custom chamber notwithstanding". I have heard of broken Mini bolts before but it's been attributed to battering from the notoriously over-gassed stock gas system. The only other 5.56 issue I've had was with the Norinc...

When Mike Venturino did the 44 American he used the RCBS American mold that cast at .423, and he reported that it shot fine in his gun. (bore diameter not mentioned but assumed smaller than the .434 nominal from the 44 American specs) He did use cut down .41 brass and RCBS dies.

A while back there was a decent Model 55 Winchester at a local shop for not too much. The reason it was not much was that someone once installed a recoil pad on it but had chopped the stock perpendicular to the toe line on the low side. Made me a little ill.
