I saw Cody Lundin's house online a couple years ago after Dual Survival came out. Pretty neat setup. On the earthship website it says that the earthships can be built for any climate. I don't know about giant jackrabbits, but my understanding of where the jackalope legend comes from is a fungus that grows on rabbits' heads, causing it to look like they have antlers. Conditions are generally not as conducive to wildfires back east. There isn't nearly as much wilderness, and fires don't have a chance to get started good.
