Re: Buffalo Bore 30-30 190 grain
I used the Buffalo Bore hardcast bullets for my 45-70, .44 mag and .357. They do penetrate! But the recoil is .....noticeable. I ended up using Core-Lokts for the 45-70. For my 30-30, I like Federal Premium 170 gr Nosler Partition. Using it now for elk. I'm sure the 30-30 190 BB are much more stout ...

Did a little bowhunting last week and rifle just opened. Seen a few elk too far for a bow. We did run into a cinnamon black bear with two cubs. We've seen more bear and moose than elk. The scenery is amazing though.

Re: American Western Arms
I may be wrong on the manufacturer. The initial ad says American Arms Regulator but the details say Western Arms. I researched it and AWA didn't make a Regulator. They made a Peacekeeper and Longhorn. The American Arms .45 are stamped Uberti I believe. Oh well......

I saw a local ad for a 7.5" AWA Regulator .45 , bone and ash color cased hardened in excellent condition for $700
Are they any good or just another uberti.

Didn't like it. Its a good idea, well built, not for me. The sling is very thick and not too flexible, but I'm sure it would break in. The laces on the barrel band are on the left side, not underneath. It looks and feels bulky. The buttstock cover is very rugged and well made, but I didn't think abou...

I want to try and get an elk with a 30-30 my friend left me. I posted how I had it reblued and a new stock put on. I don't want to put swivel mounts on it and hiking 4-10 miles a day on the mountains is too much for me to just carry it. I found this no drill sling on Amazon. It's $88. It looks well ...

I tried out my father in laws case color 45-70 with the Hornady LeverEvolution 325gr load, me not being terribly used to the rifle + a fairy heavy trigger, I was able to put 3 shots into an Inch at 100 yards (leopold 2-7x scope). I have a Winchester .357 Trapper that I've left continuously loaded over 10 years and it's never given me a problem.
In L.E. we had our Remington 870s loaded for several years at a time. Most were fired twice a year and then reloaded and put in the rack. I never saw one malfunction.

I was interested in how it averaged out. Over 10 years or so the average distance I shot big game was around 70 yards if I remember correctly. The majority were taken before 10 AM. And the majority needed no follow-up shots. Mine average about 90 yards for elk and almost all were around 7am or 7pm ...

I quit doing that more than 20 years ago. I've kept a record of game also, distance and rifle used...l...

Yes, not sure you need to suffer under those 2100 fps loads. I have a friend here who shot his bison over your way with a 405 grain over black powder out of an original trap door carbine and it fully penetrated the critter with two loads. He tells me the load is running a sedate 1300-1400 fps. Exac...

So I bought this 1895 XLR back in '07. I love it but since a shoulder replacement, those 2100+ fps rounds take their toll. I thought I needed those for grizzlies while elk hunting. But....hunters are using 10mm pistols for bear defense out here! So I figure 405 Core-Lokts at 1600fps will do the job ...
