Marty also gifted me the scabbard and ammo pouch. It took a bit of leather conditioner! The ammo, Winchester Power Points, were also turning green. Cleaned it all up.I think I'll use that ammo for an elk hunt this year. I shot the rifle yesterday. Very accurate. I only shot at 50 yards but it shot a...

I have a Winchester .357 Trapper that I've left continuously loaded over 10 years and it's never given me a problem.
In L.E. we had our Remington 870s loaded for several years at a time. Most were fired twice a year and then reloaded and put in the rack. I never saw one malfunction.

I was interested in how it averaged out. Over 10 years or so the average distance I shot big game was around 70 yards if I remember correctly. The majority were taken before 10 AM. And the majority needed no follow-up shots. Mine average about 90 yards for elk and almost all were around 7am or 7pm ...

So I bought this 1895 XLR back in '07. I love it but since a shoulder replacement, those 2100+ fps rounds take their toll. I thought I needed those for grizzlies while elk hunting. But....hunters are using 10mm pistols for bear defense out here! So I figure 405 Core-Lokts at 1600fps will do the job ...
