Marty also gifted me the scabbard and ammo pouch. It took a bit of leather conditioner! The ammo, Winchester Power Points, were also turning green. Cleaned it all up.I think I'll use that ammo for an elk hunt this year. I shot the rifle yesterday. Very accurate. I only shot at 50 yards but it shot a...

Screenshot_20250611_095151_Messages.jpg Wow, what a handsome Marlin. I'm sure your friend would be pleased with the care you have put into it and I hope it puts some elk venison in your freezer this fall. In .30-30? Yes...30-30. It was made in '72. I have a Winchester .357 Trapper that I've left continuously loaded over 10 years and it's never given me a problem.
In L.E. we had our Remington 870s loaded for several years at a time. Most were fired twice a year and then reloaded and put in the rack. I never saw one malfunction.

Probably not what you're looking for but Cold Steel makes a Click n Cut knife with 5 disposable/interchangeable blades like the Havalon knife. Re: How many of you keep records of the amount of times you shoot a particular gun?
I was interested in how it averaged out. Over 10 years or so the average distance I shot big game was around 70 yards if I remember correctly. The majority were taken before 10 AM. And the majority needed no follow-up shots. Mine average about 90 yards for elk and almost all were around 7am or 7pm ...

Yes, not sure you need to suffer under those 2100 fps loads. I have a friend here who shot his bison over your way with a 405 grain over black powder out of an original trap door carbine and it fully penetrated the critter with two loads. He tells me the load is running a sedate 1300-1400 fps. Exac...

So I bought this 1895 XLR back in '07. I love it but since a shoulder replacement, those 2100+ fps rounds take their toll. I thought I needed those for grizzlies while elk hunting. But....hunters are using 10mm pistols for bear defense out here! So I figure 405 Core-Lokts at 1600fps will do the job ...

Have you ever used powderless .22? Aguilar makes them. They are ultra quiet. They're great in revolvers and levers, and single shots. I think they go about 400-420 fps and max out at 100 yards.
