Re: OT: Today's plane pic of the day

Yes, when I first saw "Bockscar" I had some sobering thoughts. My dad was in training for the invasion of Japan when Harry Truman made the decision to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There is a chance I would not be here today if that hadn't happened.

Re: How Many here currently own/shoot a .45-75 WCF?

I bought my Cimarron/Uberti last June. It's a 28" barrel standard rifle. I wanted the .45-75 because it was the original chambering for the '76. It is a real .45-75WCF not the .45-75UCF (Uberti Center Fire). I made sure of that thanks to my friend Danny. Anyone thinking about one of these repro...

Re: How Many here currently own/shoot a .50-95 WCF?

I was wondering (after my post on the .45-75 got so little response), how many here might now own (or had owned) a reproduction or original rifle chambered for the .50-95 Winchester Center Fire and do (did) any of you rely on factory/custom loaded ammunition? I know there were several who were talk...

Yeah, my Dad's planes flew out of Travis, AFB and ran up to Alaska. He still talks about keeping all those engines synched up. I guess there is one left at Pima, AZ , one in CA and one in OH, but none operable today.: http://www.air-and-space.com/b-36%20survivors.htm Another plane at the Pima Air M...

My Father got his start on the RB-36 with those 6 pushers and the 4 J-57's. I can only imagine what they sounded like at full power. Hope someday to hear one in action. I had a good friend who was a photo reconasance crewman on the B-36's at Minot,ND. He claimed the challange was for all 6 pushers ...

The EAA's B-17G "Aluminum Overcast" was at Jones Airport in Tulsa two weeks ago. The bomber was outstanding and the take offs and landings were a joy to experience. There were two local gentlemen there talking about flying bombing missions in these planes. Both in their mid 80's, one a bom...

Re: Cat Populations Should be Controlled

If an animal is a pet it belongs on it's owner's property, not on my property, and not running or hunting game on public lands. Occassionally stray pets should be captured and turned over to their owner or animal control. Habitually stray or destructive pets and ferals should, in every case, be des...

I'm running an '01 Cummins/Dodge 3/4 ton 2X4 Quad cab with the HO engine, 6 speed manual transmission and 3.54 rear end. I ordered it new and it now has 147,000 miles on it. Every thing about it is box stock. No engine modifications. Oil changes every 100 hours of operation. Regular servicing of air...

We have a number of ethanol free stations around here. I am not a big fan of ethanol. It seems that all it is good for is making people think we are becoming energy independent. It really costs more because of the reduced fuel mileage that you get. In my Chevy using real gas I get 28+ mpg on the hig...

Buffboy knows of what he speaks! You don't say what you will be doing with this truck. Just a restoration for the truck shows or are you going to use it to haul with? I have an old 1923 MACK AB that I restored several years ago. It is strictly a show truck. It has mechanical brakes, meaning the only...

Yeah, dial up here too. For what high speed internet would cost here I could buy some very nice lever guns! My '23 MACK truck and all of my steel wheel tractors have spark advance. The technology still seems to work. Not so in the digital age when things are obsolete months after they are made. :)

A set screw like that is probably ten cents at your local hardware store. That is if you have a local hardware store. In some places Home Depot and Lowes have pretty much shut the local hardware stores down. Not that Lowes or Home Depot don't have set screws. You just have to walk 5 miles to find on...
