My ship was on the gun line with the Kitty Hawk, several other carriers as well. The Kitty Hawk was in Hong Kong (anchored way out back) same time I was there (one of the two times).

Awhile back, while "targeting" the urinal, I noticed a urinal cake (deodorizer I guess) sitting there (in the urinal) and it had a sticker on it that read "please do not eat the urinal cakes".
First thought was Really ? People actually eat these things ??!!

Interesting, I was reading about Simo's feats as a sniper, unreal, what a shooter ! The thing that caught my attention the most was Simo would fill his mouth with snow to mask his breath (exhale) from giving away his position to the Russians.

Interesting thread. Health wise, I've been luckier than many. At age 32, I had a brain tumor the size of a medium potato removed and survived that 35 more years so far. Before yesterday's events I did check into prices on several Henry sidegate BBS 357 leverguns, and as expected - none in stock. They're made about an hour north of my farm.
Kinda wondering how the Ruger Marlins will be.

I've been thinking about a 357 lever gun for a long time and sitting on the fence. The new side gate Henry looks interesting, however I'd like to see what Ruger is going to do with Marlin now. Are they going to restore the brand and quality, offering a good Marlin levergun again ? Hmmm...

I managed to purchase one of the last "JM" 30-30 CB cowboys, 24" octagon barrel when Marlin quit making them. To say the least, it is a well balanced and very accurate rifle. Have always wanted the 1894 357 version, but have never even seen one. Came across two 1894 44 mag versions on the same used ...

I too grew up with frequent sonic booms in the 50's and early 60's. There was an Air National Guard base several miles away and the fighter jets were flying over all of the time.
Also remember watching the old flying "boxcar" aircraft fly over every so often.

While on the gun line in the Tonkin Gulf, we saw F-4's flying all of the time. Easy to recognize with their exhaust trail.
One morning while at quarters on the ASROC deck, an F-4 came over us (from behind) just over our masts.
We saw it fly over, then the jet trail hit us. Talk about fill our pants !
