Low 4,000's serial numbered model 71 deluxe my dad bought originally, and gave to me in 1962. He carried it all over the Donner Summit area of Northern California in the middle to later 40's, and killed many mule deer with it. Most beautiful wood I ever saw on a 71, priceless to me.

I've got all 4 Browning model 71's, but with no doubt in my mind at all, my favorite is the Standard Grade carbine. Not as fancy as the high grades, and not as big as the Standard Rifle, but something about that carbine just sets me off.

I guess I started out life with a lever action, a model 71. I own a 300 mag in a Browning A-Bolt Medallion, have hunted with it and killed deer, it's wonderful. But it is a tool, whereas the lever guns I own are part of the family.
