That is the front band where it should be, it has been shortened by about 6 inches recrowned and the front sight is probablt got a screw under the dovetail into the barrel and soldered. Great story and pics mate thanks. I feel the same about an old IverJohnson Champion 12ga shotgun that my Grandfathers Father gave to him when he was 15 back in the 30s it cost 12/6 which was the equivelant of $1.50. Chris Hi you can correct me if I'am wrong but 38-55 is supposed to be .379 dia and we have West Castings cast projectiles here in .379 255gr very reasonably priced from Cleaver in OLD or Rebels etc that would explain the tumbling if you are shooting undersize bullets in your gun the strange part is ...
