In 1995 they made it prohibited to own under 105mm barrelled guns and calibers under 380 Auto. It is also illegal to have the said ammo in your possession! It isn't illegal to have pistol ammo under 380 in your possession. Heck, there are plenty of rifles out there in 25-20 and 32-20, Marlin's 1894...

I can't see how the ejector is causing an issue UNLESS the whole ejector assembly is in backwards? The pointy end is supposed to face front, and the part facing the rear is a sort of ramp shoved into the slot by the bolt travelling forward. :oops: And I know what I'll be doing tonight. Thanks. :D

FYI - I haven't heard good things about them. Pretty sloppy assembly and fitting. I was considering getting one when they first arrived, but after reading some reviews and seeing "in hand" pictures, I'm very glad I waited.

The bore on this one is dead mint - bright and shiny. Hopefully it'll be a shooter. A Remington model 12C will be coming home at the same time - talk about an odd couple.

Thanks for all the input guys. I made the deal, and I now have the Sharps barreled receiver (as well as a Winchester 1895 carbine in 303 British) on the way. Once I get a first hand look at the Sharps I'll have a better idea of what I plan on doing with it. It's coming from the Northwest Territories...

I have the option of picking up an original Sharps model 1859 barreled action (looks like just about all the pieces are there except the hammer and wood). Since all it will ever be at this point is a shooter, I was thinking that it might be interesting to have it converted to cartridge, if possible....

If for some strange reason you decide you want to build your 44-40 on another frame, definitely let me know. I've been trying to find a pre-1898 frame set-up in 38 Special because they qualify as an antique here (meaning a lot less BS about where you can shoot it, how you can store it, etc.).

You take it out to remove the cylinder/extractor (at leat I think you do - been a year or 2 since I stripped down a Mark 1 or 2 ).

Sambar or even elk antler might look decent on it. Although I can't imagine there are many people offering Webley grips in any material, let alone those.

32 Long Colt can be found around - be surprised what you find lying around at gunshows once you start looking. I've made a habit of picking up any 32 Long or Short Colt whenever I come across it. Picked up my new Chaparral 1876 last night, and other than that sights, so far I'm impressed. Remington 14-1/2 #2 should be here in a week and a half or so.

This one is complete and unblemished except for a replacement buttstock (really well done - complete with cheek rest). So I'll swap out stocks and have 1 complete original, and 1 sporter.

I've read the Great War series and some of American Empire, along with How Few Remain - really good reading. Guns of the South was pretty good too - little more sci-fi than alternate history, but interesting to read about their attempts to get black powder ammo to work in an AK.
