Re: New Rossi R95 Trapper 45/70

Thank you for going with a dedicated red dot mount instead of just doing picatinny rail. I drives me nuts when people do that. There are dedicated mounts if you look long enough on the internet. That's a good looking build.

If I remember to, I'll make up picture of my newest pairing. I'm in the middle of a Chiappa LA322 build that's showing real promise of being fun along with a S&W Model 17-9. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/66/70/ee/6670ee954c498923866758b6d149beb6.jpg https://i.pinimg.com/originals/4d/b7/55/4db75...

Re: 38 special and other multi cartridge firearms

I can't say that I can give you personal experience yet on the matter because I'm just getting ready to start full power 38 Special / 357 Mag hand loading but what I can give you is what Elmer Keith found. Back when 357 Mag was being developed, Mr. Keith had noted that his handloads of the .38 Speci...

Re: Light Loads - Unique vs Winchster 244 - Questions

Not sure what gun you are shooting these in, but if it is rated for +P you can go up to 6.2 grains. They are being launched from the thing on the right. The goal is quietness and cheapness. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f9/2c/4b/f92c4bff19e4edb341a68ce16120f8b8.jpg I followed the Hodgdon RLDC info...

Re: Light Loads - Unique vs Winchster 244 - Questions

I tried to grab a bottle of Titegroup from the local Academy but they were out. On the way back from our 4th of July vacation, we stopped at the Bass Pro in Lawrenceville. They did have the 244 so I got a bottle. The load data shows that 38 Special and 105 grain bullets is 4.1 to 4.4 grains of powde...

Re: Light Loads - Unique vs Winchster 244 - Questions

Try TiteGroup for "cat sneeze" loads. Not supposed to be position sensitive. Also works good in 223 with a 70 gr. cast bullet at about 1450 fps. Glenn Titegroup was on my list of powders to play with. Sounds like I just need to buy both and keep on testing. I wish we could get Trail Boss ...

Light Loads - Unique vs Winchster 244 - Questions

I'm back to doing research for light plinking loads for various calibers again. Previously, every time I started down this path, I inevitably end up seeing suggestions or posts on the various forums where someone used whatever caliber and a level of Unique powder. For example, a small game load for ...

Re: What Are You Hunting with Your Levergun...

I hunt deer and good times. The Marlin 1894 CST in .357 Magnum is my sort of working gun these days. I started hunting whitetail years ago with a Win 94 in .30-30 but made the switch last season to the .357 Magnum until I can finalize a new Marlin .30-30 build. The Remington .357 Mag HTP 158 gr SJHP...

Winchester 94 in Need of A Tune Up

I've had a 70's era Winchester 94 in .30-30 for a while now and it's been a bit of a saga in terms of getting it into a useful condition. It looked nice enough when I got it but it had issues and inside it's sort of a mess. The biggest issue I've had is the cartridge stop doesn't work right and will...

Re: Uberti rolling block 22lr

OOO. I've been wanting a rolling block for a while now. I had a chance to buy a .22 one a few years back but the shop in GA wouldn't take a debit card and I couldn't get cash or a money order from the banks near by. I was sad. I keep seeing these at Taylor's and wondered if they're any good. Some da...

I wouldn't mind having one as a working gun in stainless. I won't be replaced by .357 Mag Marlin but if I felt like I honestly needed a .44 Mag, I would seriously consider one.

Re: Howdy from Georgia!

How do you like that forward mount on the Winchester 94? I have a replacement rear band with a stud and I like that pretty good. I take it you mean the sling? It works well enough. I used to have a Williams receiver mounted aperture sight and the whole setup had a sort of older military rifle feel ...
