Re: Old cars and trucks in case of an EMP

I like my vehicles as much as anyone, but in the case of something of that magnitude, they are pretty much a write off. In the case of widespread breakdown, a running vehicle loaded with "stuff" is going to draw the the attention you don't want. The roads will be blocked by all the vehicl...

Re: Old cars and trucks in case of an EMP

A CME wiped out most of our telegraph infrastructure in the 1860s. Our concerns don't lie solely with unruly cohabitants of this rock, our own star can wreak some serious havoc.

Re: Old cars and trucks in case of an EMP

I think the best you can do is an old school completely mechanical diesel with a manual fuel cut-off to shut it down. Those types of diesels need zero electrical current to run and will run until out of fuel. But then you still have the necessary electrical components needed for the charging/startin...

A couple years ago while vacationing in Maine I picked up what I thought to be a tastefully sporterized 1903 at Kittery Trading Post. Serial number says it was made in 1930 so I don't think it's an A3. Has a very nice vintage Redfield rear aperture and front post. I get the feeling the rifle was mod...

There is also work required in the action for the larger diameter and longer 50-110. Choose your gunsmith carefully for this job. I know for a fact Turnbull knows how to do it correctly. I'm sure there are others as well. But I've read reports here and there of attempts that were not successful.

I'm a fan of Henry as well as the Winchester 1886. So no bias here. Talking about modern rifles, the 1886 is hands-down the stronger action. Henry rifles are a virtual carbon copy of Marlin 336 and what they call today their 1895. Good strong action, but the '86 is even more so. Plus the '86 action ...
