I have a nice 1904 Mannlicher-Schoenauer carbine in 6.5 X 54.
I don't shoot it much, but when I had a chance to buy it, I could not resist.
I also have 1908 carbines in 8 x 56 and 9 X 56 MS.
Oh, and a 1950 and 1952 model rifles in .270, .30-06

Re: COST OF 22 RIMFIRE
the last time I was able to buy a bulk pack of Federal .22 here was back in the fall. Every one of our three wally worlds has been out of stock every trip I have made since then.
Thats not to say I am out though![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: VIRTUES OF THE 44 MAG...(UPDATED)
I have taken 9 deer now with my Marlin 1894S in .44 mag. My load is the Speer 270 grain Gold Dot SP, over H110 powder. I get a consistent 1575 FPS, and excellent accuracy. Clover leaf groups at 50 yards, and less than 1.5 inches at 100 yards. The furtherest distance I have killed a deer though, was ...

I am so sorry for your loss. If you can't cry over the loss of a wonderful dog, then you just arn't human.

Re: What kind of hunter are you?
If I had the time and ability, I would probably be a "limit hunter". I hunt for meat, not trophys.
That being said, I guess in reality, I hunt just to be in the outdoors. I do love guns and gear, but not as much as I love being in the woods.

Re: Shot the Texan at the range today...
Things have been so jammed up OSOK, that I have not sightned in the 1971 Texan SRC or the new Leupold on the 1894S. I did get a chance to fire a few round through the 1949 RC, and with the Lyman receiver sight, it is quite accurate shooting 150 grain Remington CoreLokts.

Re: FLORIDA LEVERGUNNERS MEET
I'll be up in Virginia on those dates, hiking the AT. Would be fun to meet up though, and exercise the lever guns a bit. I am not that far away, up in Gainesville.
I have a new to me 336 Texan SRC to try out, and a new Leupold scope on my 1894S that needs to be sighted in.

Re: Marlin Spikehorn
I bought mine back in Oct. 2004 at the Bass Pro in Ft. Lauderdale. I drove up from South Miami to buy a Winchester 94 they had on sale for $300. When I got there, and it was the first morning of the sale flyer, they were out of the Winchesters. I raised a stink, and they let me pick a Marlin 336Y fo...

Heck, I rechambered my 1954 Marlin to 30-30 Ackley. Marlins are for shooting. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

I carry a Bisley Vaquero in either .44 Mag or .45 Colt when the weather is cooler, and I can wear a jacket to conceal it. I use a Mernickle holster, Bob's PS6-SA model. This has to be one of the best carry holsters ever made for a Single Action. http://www.myhostedpics.com/images/Mannlicher/img0096....
