I have a nice 1904 Mannlicher-Schoenauer carbine in 6.5 X 54.

I don't shoot it much, but when I had a chance to buy it, I could not resist.

I also have 1908 carbines in 8 x 56 and 9 X 56 MS.

Oh, and a 1950 and 1952 model rifles in .270, .30-06

the last time I was able to buy a bulk pack of Federal .22 here was back in the fall. Every one of our three wally worlds has been out of stock every trip I have made since then.

I have taken 9 deer now with my Marlin 1894S in .44 mag. My load is the Speer 270 grain Gold Dot SP, over H110 powder. I get a consistent 1575 FPS, and excellent accuracy. Clover leaf groups at 50 yards, and less than 1.5 inches at 100 yards. The furtherest distance I have killed a deer though, was ...

If I had the time and ability, I would probably be a "limit hunter". I hunt for meat, not trophys.
That being said, I guess in reality, I hunt just to be in the outdoors. I do love guns and gear, but not as much as I love being in the woods.

Things have been so jammed up OSOK, that I have not sightned in the 1971 Texan SRC or the new Leupold on the 1894S. I did get a chance to fire a few round through the 1949 RC, and with the Lyman receiver sight, it is quite accurate shooting 150 grain Remington CoreLokts.

I'll be up in Virginia on those dates, hiking the AT. Would be fun to meet up though, and exercise the lever guns a bit. I am not that far away, up in Gainesville.

Heck, I rechambered my 1954 Marlin to 30-30 Ackley. Marlins are for shooting.

I carry a Bisley Vaquero in either .44 Mag or .45 Colt when the weather is cooler, and I can wear a jacket to conceal it. I use a Mernickle holster, Bob's PS6-SA model. I continue to have exellent results with the .44 Mag Speer 270 grain GDSP bullet, over a good bit of H110.
This has been my deer and hog round since 1995 or so, in my Marlin 1894S.
