Re: The Wrong "Truck" Gun
Walt this one has the 20" octagonal barrel, only drawback is the bulge it leaves on the cases, sizes out, but I still don't like it, if I didn't love the 45 Colt, and if it weren't so dang accurate, I probably would have moved it down the line. I have a Skinner sight for it, but as accurate as ...

The Wrong "Truck" Gun
Went out for a quick shooting session in the foothills of the Sacramento Mountains. Brought along 2 lever actions, one a "vintage" JM Marlin 1894 Limited in 45 Colt, the other a Ruger/Marlin 1894 Classic in 44 Magnum. The 44 is the rifle I most often throw in the Jeep when heading for the ...

Re: Shout out for Freedom Arns customer service
Looking forward to getting mine back from Freedom Arms. They were able to fix the original issue, and I asked them to fit a 45 Colt cylinder. I carry my 6" 83 in a Simply Rugged Chesty Puller rig, and it logs a lot of miles in that holster. It's like carrying a light rifle when I am in the moun...

Re: Granddad's Model 94 32 Winchester Special
As a woods rifle the Hornady bullet load would definitely be more than adequate, in the more open country I hunt in NM it would limit me to 100, maybe a 125 yards on deer, maybe just a touch further on elk. Which isn't to say that is necessarily a bad thing. I'm still having fun, every range session...

Re: Big bore sixgun back in the corral
My first Super was a 90s model I purchased off of a fellow NCO in Alaska, he said he couldn't hardly hit a 55 gallon drum at 25 yards with it and he had a 44 Desert Eagle on layaway. $200 got me the pistol, 140 rounds of 240gr JSP ammo and an Uncle Mike's shoulder rig with ammo wallet for 10 rounds....

Re: Pushing Cast Too Hard
It does, honestly it's greatest benefit for me is in the 45 ACP and Colt where velocities are under 1K, I generally skip the lubrisizer altogether. It's been a true advantage in my Marlin 1894 in 32-20, it used to lead just a little with cast bullets at 1800+ fps, now it's clean as a whistle. Not ve...

Re: Pushing Cast Too Hard
Griff I have been powder coating my bullet and also lubing them. In my 300 WM and 375 Ruger I regularly push non-checked bullets over the 2k mark, in the 44 Carbine I'm getting 1600 fps with a 270gr cast bullet. I think the rougher bore on this rifle is contributing, and I am thinking that I need to...

Mine was putting 340gr LBT WFNPB and a 325gr bullet from one of my Mountain Moulds blocks centered up pretty good on a 10" plate at 50 yards yesterday, the RCBS 45-270SAA at 285 grains were hitting about 1 1/2" lower at the same range, all bullets were in the 1100FPS neighborhood.

Pushing Cast Too Hard
So on the advice of the fine members here, I thoroughly cleaned the old Model 94 32 Winchester Special, used my go to copper remover and the bore, while still pitted was shining. Shot the 170gr Hornady bullets over 3031, got a decent 10 shot group at 50 yards, about half were grouped under an inch. ...

I'll be utilizing their customer service soon, I let what is apparently a broken firing pin turn in to an idiot in action. So I really enjoy shooting the 45 Colt Marlin Limited, bulged brass and all. Well in trying to find a good 250-255 grain mould to lessen recoil a little and have no worries about the 1:38 twist, not that I have seen any issues with my beloved 45-270SAA bullet, but just the same. Still working on a decent load, so far 2 1/2" at 50 yards is as good as it has done. That was an H4895 load moving at 2200 fps. I will add the sights are not very easy for my aging eyes.
