Wife and I were walking Sat morning and we both said the same thing -- "feels like fall". My son said one of his friends was scouting elk over the weekend, and they were bugling like crazy in the high country. Archery elk starts the 6th of Sept -- best time of year in Montana -- cool/cold mornings, nice days, leaves changing, dustings of snow, lots of animal to be seen/called, not too many hunters.
Need to draw a permit for this guy, but they are fun to see.
Yep, rapidly approaching my favorite time of year. Jim, it was a little cooler here this morning but not that cool. I'm just one state over, send some my way.
54.1 degrees here at after 9 am! I forgot to look at the thermometer when I got up at 5 am, I bet it was close to 45 degrees last night. Fall has definately fallen. Elk are starting to bugle.
It's time to finish up my little project around the house over the next week or so. Starting Sept. 1st I'm in the woods with a rifle and pistol at hand!

It's the best time of year -- and the worst, because there are so many options. Archery deer and elk open here in Oregon on Saturday, and grouse, mountain quail and dove on Monday. At the same time, the Rogue River mouth is packed with bright 20- to 40-pound fall chinooks, not to mention thousands upon thousands of young steelhead.
Here in the Rogue Valley it was our coolest morning yet, about 44 degrees at my house. I love shorts and sandals season, but not as much as Levis and flannel shirt season in the high country.
We finally - FINALLY - got a full day of rain here. First in I can't remember how long. Hopefully the next three days will be the same - we have a lot of ground to make up!
You guys are killing me with those pictures!!! I'm settling in to my new home in Ukiah, CA and its doubtfull that I will ever live in Montana or Wyoming at this point. But I'm living in some of the finest land in California and I'm very close to some of the best CA hunting around. Life is good.
But I still have dreams of Montana.....Guess I will have to make some trips out there!

That is some really pretty country. For me August has been almost bone dry with frequent morning frosts. I snapped this sunrise from my verandah a couple of days ago. It was the first cloudy day for three weeks and produced a whole 2mm of rain.
Heres a couple of bulls on the neighbors ranch the little guy in the pond and the big bull in the front yard, is on the prod. Its that time of the year when they chase stock and keep you in your truck till you sic the dogs on them. Had a cool breeze coming down off the cabinets as there was a dusting of snow up high. danny
