USPS again
So I'm expecting an important letter today (lots of money involved). I waited and waited and nothing. So, I ask my neighbors, no one got mail today. Now I guess it's possible an entire block could not be getting any mail, but pretty doubtful.
Here's what I found out. The USPS is not required to delivery mail. They have a whole bunch of made up reasons why they would skip entire routes. Apparently in my area this is very common. So much for rain, sleet, snow nor dark of night.
I decided to dig a bit deeper. USPS makes a big deal out of not getting money from the government to operate. False, they do. They also get special funds, like the one to buy electric vehicle (3 billion, imagine how many cars you and I could buy for 3 billion), it was hidden in a Biden "Inflation Reduction Bill". Then there's the little thing that they can borrow up to 15 billion a year from the treasury. Well they hit that earlier this year. So they are wanting another special infusion of money. Trump refused. The USPS response is to stop paying into the retirement fund of employees until the end of the year.
The USPS is a financial disaster. It needs to die.

Re: USPS again
We live in a rural setting but we're only about 15 miles outside of the 4th largest city in the state. We experience what you describe regularly. We will go days with no mail, zero. Then on the 3rd or 4th day we will get a full box of mail. I doubt they would admit it, but I'm sure the rural carrier just doesn't want to run the route every day.

Re: USPS again
It's not just there it's not getting delivered! Seems like about every other week or so I don't get mail at least one day a week, not even junk mail!
My old carrier was a 40+ year employee and you could count on Jimmy to be at the mailbox every day almost to the minute. Rain nor snow nor dark of night stopped him as he drove an International Scout- snow plow included. If he had to push snow to deliver he did!
I've said for years the USPS needs to be run privately.

Mailed a T/C Hawken June 6, "Ground Advantage." It went right to El Paso and right to ABQ. Then ABQ mailed it back to itself twice. This took at least three days. It is supposed to be delivered tomorrow in New Hampshire. We will see.
Re: USPS again
My local post master put up a sign showing that stamps had only increased $.75 since 1932. He didn't like when I pointed out that it was a 2600% increase.
I use the USPS Informed Delivery service where it shows a photo of the mail that will be delivered that day. Sometimes my daily mail doesn't show for three or more days and often I get variou neighbor's mail in my mailbox. I often wonder where my mail is getting delivered.

Re: USPS again
Last month I had a set of gunsmithing tools to be returned after I used them. They were sent by priority mail with the claim of 3 day delivery. 27 days and a grand tour around the country before they arrived. They happily charge for the priority service delivery be dammed. I wonder if surface mail would be faster?
Re: USPS again
27 days, you're lucky. I was sent a USPS MO May of last year, for some Lapua brass. Brass made it to the guy in 4 days. After 4 Months of not seeing the priority mail envelope, he sent the brass back. Check finally showed up on Christmas eve, so 7 Months to get to me.

The "rain, sleet, snow" quote was in reference to Kublai Khan's pony express.
Re: USPS again
Now, rain, sleet, warm weather, cold weather, and whatever excuse sounds appropriate sure stops the USPS.

Yup , time to go private , private companies have to run responsibly to stay in business .
Amazon can deliver a refrigerator , in less time the usps can deliver a letter.
