I went to the Las Vegas Collectors show and found this gorgeous 1873 in 22 short. It didn't take long to beat the guy up and walk away with the rifle.
While I was walking down the aisle another dealer offered me $1,000.00 more than I paid for it. you don't find 1873 22 rifles in this condition with a good bore!
It shoots great as well. The target was 25 yards on a concrete bench, resting on my elbow. It is certainly a keeper!
Real nice one! I have one of made in 1889. As much as yours is on the +++plus side of condition, mine is on the --- negative side of condition.
Mine needs the barrel relined, a new bolt, screws, all the dovetails are loose, and the brass lifter is worn bad. I have not had any luck finding parts for it.
I guess mine is just a wall hanger.

Wow! Now, that is a cool gun. Is that gun downsized in any way from the centerfire 73? Or is it, basically the same size on the outside dimensions as a centerfire 73 and just bored smaller on the inside to handle the .22 short? I was just curious as to how Winchester did it. I knew they made some, but I have never seen one in the flesh, that I can remember.
That is incredible! Back in 2016 I was in Las Vegas for a trade show when the ice storm struck the east. My original flight was cancelled and I was stuck until that Monday. Went to the Antique Arms show and it was, by far, the best gun show I ever attended.

It is a full size 1873 with a 22 bore.
The magazine is a tube that goes into the tube under the barrel and is a mechanical wonder…
That's really awesome! The condition on that is amazing. Thanks for showing the inner magazine assembly. I'd like to see pictures of the breech, lifter from the top, more pictures in general. Well done!
