I'm hunkered down here at home... and trying to parcel out my snacks... snuck out to the VA doc on Thursday to deal with an ear infection and then the grocery store... what a crowd... you'd of thought everyone was trying to lay in supplies! Stay warm Jim. I forgot to get anti-gel in my various diesel vehicle's fuel tanks. So... I'm guessing I ain't going anywhere until it warms up a bit!

Our daughter in Oklahoma City said a while ago that it's still snowing and that the wind chill factor was minus ten degrees.

Have a brother there in Oklahoma City, and he did not say was still snowing, but said is really cold.
From what I see in the stores, folks are hitting there like they do here in Mobile, AL when the hurricanes are coming

Re: I Am Riding The Storm Out In Oklahoma
It's the same here in the N.E., panic is an understatement!
Our forecast is now 6-12" of snow, maybe.03" of ice. Just yesterday we were supposed to get 12-22" of snow.
Was 1.5° this morning.
Last Thursday I put a new drive belt on my Polaris Ranger so I can plow snow. Went out and got 25gallons of gas to have for generator.
Fired up my generator earlier, I need to get a new battery, very weak.
Picked up dog food yesterday.
We are ready.

We got ready by Thursday. Made sure the generator was running ok, fueled it and got extra fuel. Plenty of propane for the emergency heat if we need it. I bought some antifreeze (Angels Envy bourbon) and made a big batch of chili that is still feeding us. Though sad to report, the cornbread just ran out.

We're just in the western edge of it. Gray, drizzly and 40-ish outside - enough to make me cancel today's range trip. I'm thinking loaded baked potatoes with taco meat for dinner, going foraging for snacks in a bit.
Everyone stay safe.

Re: I Am Riding The Storm Out In Oklahoma
Since folks always lke to complain about California and Californians, here's my plan for today and my weather report.
Well, we had just enough rain to leave spots on my Tacoma. So it's time to wash and wash the truck.
It 72*F. Slight breeze. Just a few fluffy white clouds.
Go ahead hate us even more. But do you folks realize that if more of you chose the sunshine over the snow and ice this could be a conservative state?

We are hovering around 13 degrees here in my neck of the woods. So far, we have got 2.5" to 3" and tonight we are forecasted to get that much or more.
I am dreading the zero lows coming. My cows are doing good though, even though they are coated in ice. We have a friend that lost a cow last night. That's
a big hit to the pocketbook!
The wife has a crockpot full of pinto beans going. Maybe I can talk her into making a skillet full of cornbread to go with it!
Stay warm,
JBowen

Just remember Jim, corn bread r² and pie r round
Corn bread and honey are a favorite here too but I make it to go with Dave's Gastronomic Bean Delight. A recipe of a college buddy.
6 cans of different beans
1# ground beef or venison
1/4 lbs bacon, cut to pieces
1/2 cup BBQ sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
Green seasoning of your choice ( savory is my favorite)
2Tbs of lemon juice
Cook bacon, ground beef
Add to big pot with beans- do not drain.
Add BBQ sauce, seasoning and lemon juice.
Simmer at least 1 hour.
WARNING
Do not use dry beans, takes too long to cook and the opening scene from Blazing Saddles will ensue!

Re: I Am Riding The Storm Out In Oklahoma
Here 90 miles North of the West Texas City of El Paso, it's been raining since yesterday, we don't often get free water, so despite cancelling my 38-40 test it is a blessing. Looks like 1-3" of the white fluffy stuff tonight and temps in the mid teens come Sunday night, a bit brisk for this neck of the woods, seems the bill for 70 degrees on Christmas has come due. All told we can really use the water, and it's a good excuse to watch a couple of Westerns, watched Winchester '73 last night and Hombre this afternoon.
