Went out and bought my own B-Day present!

Post by 2ndovc »

Wasn't thrilled about spending my birthday alone, so I went looking for something to do.

Just so happened that my favorite shop had a brand new Delta Elite in the Colt case looking for a new home. :D
Haven't shot it yet, the artic air set in early so I didn't want the first time out to be shaking all over the place.

.
Since about age 18 I think I've bought the majority of my own 'birthday presents'...

It just works out better that way...!

Now sometimes I'll get underwear or socks, which would have really made me mad as a kid, but is FINE with me now, as I know once there are too many holes and the toes (or other things) start poking out, they do need replaced, but I just don't ever feel like buying underwear or socks when I could pick up some more 22 LR ammo instead...

Very nice. I am sorry to hear you spent your birthday alone.

My wife makes me a cake, but it's been quite a while since I had a party of my own. The last one I did, I think I was 30, more of a social gathering for my friends. But an old man I met in town and became friends came. He gave me a Case XX pocket knife! I was floored. I only expected him to eat cake!

Birthday? What's a birthday?
I dont celebrate them. However the best present i ever got was a yellow lab pup, Dixie. I picked her and another out of the litter at 6 weeks. At 8 weeks I went back to take one of the two- I tossed a ball and Dixie went and fetched it the other didn't.
This past birthday I got myself a slightly belated Parker 20ga so maybe it's a toss up between the two!
Happy Birthday again Jason!

If you still have your earlier generation Delta, it would be cool to get a range report comparing the 2 !

I've been spending way too much time buying myself "Birthday presents"
and Juneteenth presents, pre thanksgiving presents, Black Friday presents , etc.

But i've had the 10mm itch for a while now too. Started out with a Glock gen 3 short frame Model 20 i have had for a while now , but that has morphed into that plus a 29, a RIA 10mm 1911 i think i have posted about briefly , and an early generation Delta with the small GI type sights .

I thought i was good until i answered an ad a guy had in a local shooting forum for a case of FMJ range ammo he was getting rid of. When we met up, he confessed he was out of love for the ten and was consolidating calibers, so i was asking if he had any spare 1911 or Glock 10mm mags he was getting rid of as well --- and the answer was
"Sort of - I have 4 mags but a Gen 5 Glock 20 goes with it ! "

Since i have been wanting to try a red dot for a while and this one was wearing a Trijicon - i thought that this is that "Buy Once, Cry Once" opportunity

The red dot however, does magnify real quick how odd the grip angle of the Glock is compared to a classic 1911 though

I sold the early Delta I had. It had been bubba'd too much and didn't really trust it.
The 10mm obsession is still screaming away though, still want one of the long slide Glocks to
go with the new Ruger LC carbine I bought last month. So far my favorites to shoot are the Smith M&P and
my Blackhawk convertible. Though, I'm betting the Colt may just knock the others down a notch.
I have an SDS 10mm as well. It shoots great and the trigger is just as good as the Colt, but that sucka is stiff!

Need to do a shoot off with the 10mms as well as the 9mm 1911s I've picked up over the last couple of years.
Only .45 ACP I've bought recently is an Argentine System 27. Excellent shape with an import mark so small, it took a few minutes to find it.

I saw your post on the Argentine 1911 a few weeks ago -- that is too cool

--- And yes- since that darn Ruger LC takes Glock mags, its on my interest list now too --- although i wish they would do this in the PC platform instead of the LC platform -- i like the more traditional stock shape. Price seems a bit steep for a Ruger PCC too if im nit picking - If a guy is in a "Tactical Tom" frame of mind , the Stribog 10 can be picked up occasionally for not much more

I too want one of the long slide Glocks , but i rationalized that the red dot negates the longer sight radius a bit ---- but compared to the 1911's - even an entry level model like the RIA, the Glock trigger, while certainly not heavy on the Gen 5, has that springy twangy feel that makes you think -- "Man, this thing shoots pretty good but i wish i didnt have to put up with that weirdness "

You really gotta have the carbine attachment to go with that 10mm.
