Generac service Sucks (at least in Indiana)
.
Been trying for over a month now to get the proper part of kit to convert a natural gas generator to propane. Installed it electrically 12 years ago when a natural gas pipeline easement offered landowner hookup. We wound up not hooking it up as we decided not to heat the building (empty rental house) but now want to hook up propane. Dealer keeps promising to have smart guy who knows call me.
About ready to pull the thing off the house and use it for target practice then off to the metal scrapyard.
Anyone here have a Generac dealer who isn’t flaky…?

It may be as simple as a jet change, like most changes from propane to natural gas require or vice versa. If it's that, they could just send you the jet and you could do it. You may be even able to get a suitable jet locally.
Never dealt with Generac, so can't say.

I called Generac last spring for a quote....We have a very small house and I told the sales Guy who came I wanted a base unit nothing more. The quote came back $7,300 and He said we would have to have at least a 500 gallon propane tank . Good Luck Doc.

You might try an independent company. Often they are much more responsive. They also usually have a relationship with the manufacturer and will know what parts (by part number) to order.

All that is required, at least according to our tech, was a nipple (jet) change

Should just be a carb jet change, smaller dia i believe for propane.
You could probably find the jets yourself online. If you have the owners manual it might give you the part number.
All else fails, got look for customer service number on their website, call and pitch a fit explain to them your local generac people are morons that don't care about you.

That's correct. It's a simple change to allow it to run on gas or LPG depending on which way you go.
Company I retired from sold and installed Generac, and other brand generators, and our techs did these changes on occasion. I just did the installations, and electrical end, but got to know the generator techs well working with them for over 20 years.
If I was having issues with the local Generac Service center I'd be calling Generac headquarters and complaining. They will contact the dealer directly and get them moving, or threaten losing the Generac account.

I can’t even get to the carburetor without breaking a plastic manifold - I need to get an owners manual (I shouldn’t have LOST mine… ). The one human I talked says I need a ‘parts kit’ but didn’t know which one since it is an older model, and didn’t know what was actually in the ‘parts kit’.
When deer season week-off is over for me I’ll try the parent company (hopefully won’t need a Chinese interpreter) for a manual and answers.
