Re: Good morning
RCBS .45-270-SAA over 7 gr TiteGroup. Just over 900 fps.
Old Model Blackhawk.45 Colt.
I hit him a little further back than I wanted. He led me to the thickest brush on the place.
After we cut his head off and gutted him, he field dressed at 142 pounds. Pretty good sized deer for this country.

Re: Good morning
I think I have proved to my satisfaction that I don’t need more gun than this.
The load is under 14,000 PSI so it will work fine in a SAA or clone.
This is the gun that I fire lapped and had Fermin Garza open up the cylinder throats. I can’t fault it for accuracy and the power is certainly sufficient.

Re: Good morning
What you don’t see is how sore I was today from dragging that carcass out from the densest brush on the ranch! I’m feeling my age.
But I feel pretty good about that hunt and the work I put into my sixgun and practice.
I repeat, I was blessed. Thanks guys.

Re: Good morning
Thanks for sharing with us. Haven't had a chance to hit the deer woods since 2018, so I REALLY enjoy seeing other folks' hunts. That is indeed a nice buck!

Re: Good morning
Nice buck Scott and good shooting. I also was lucky on Saturday, I shot a fawn Whitetail with my 30-40 Carbine. He was from an area with CWD, so I'll get him tested and get to cutting him up and frying up a steak.
I would be sore also, but mine died on the road and he was much smaller---one benefit to shooting a fawn.

Re: Good morning
Great job! Congratulations sir.
I have seen absolutely nothing on our property. Not even much sign.
But when you get to run around your own woods all day with a Winchester and Colt, it still ain't bad.

Meat is ready. So I need to clean out the freezer and make room for more. First world problems.

Hence the reason I’ve been using an ATV for twenty plus years now . I’m gonna do a tower shoot for pheasants and partridge Saturday and my ATV is going ! Nice to have when you take two shotguns and 100 plus rounds of ammo and a small coolerScott Tschirhart wrote:Sun Nov 10, 2024 9:08 pm What you don’t see is how sore I was today from dragging that carcass out from the densest brush on the ranch! Re: Good morning
I have a great ATV and I used it but there was no way to get it into that thick brush. I did use the winch to lift the deer onto the bed though. Very helpful.6pt-sika wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 6:12 pmHence the reason I’ve been using an ATV for twenty plus years now . Just the deer sausage fills up a Yeti 120. The back straps wouldn’t fit!

Sausage is pretty good! Used my grandpa’s recipe.
Back straps and tenderloin look pretty good too.

Re: Good morning (deer hunting photo)
best straps and loins we've had were cold-smoked over alder for 5 days. they turned into something indescribably delicious, so i'll skip the description.Scott Tschirhart wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 3:03 pm Sausage is pretty good! Used my grandpa’s recipe.

cold smoked alaska style puts the smoking fire pot a couple of feet from the smoker, ours ran under a sidewalk, so no heat at all.
hope you try it

Congratulations! That is the bullet I have shot more than any others from my 45 Colts and 454 Casull by a wiiiiide margin. I load over Unique or Longshot.
