Rifle Case Length?
Lets say you are going to get a soft rifle case in leather, faux sheepskin lined. Do you prefer the inside of the case to fit the gun length exactly? Or do you prefer a couple inches of extra room, and why?
What if the case is canvas or cordora? does that change your opinion?
I have a perfectly fit American Mountain Supply case for my Winchester 94 and I like that better than a case with a few inches of extra room.

Re: Rifle Case Length?
I like em a tight perfect fit if possible. Why? Mine are usually hauled across a 4w behind me, and maneuvering these mountain roads, you're barely clearing in places, and if a case is sticking out past where the gun really is, keeps me guessing! I've been using a Cabelas Canvas with leather trim made just for a Carbine Lever gun, that's always inside the widest point of the 4w, always rides just behind me. But I have a Mod 64 24" barrel that's about equal length almost as my 22" Bolt Actions, and these I've been hauling in a Wal Mart Case, ?52" I believe, but way l9nger than needed for all 3 rifles. This summer I saw Midway had a heavy Canvas Case, leather trim, really nice looking and I believe I got it about $45?+-? But even on the site it said to get a case that's at least 2" longer than gun length. And it was available in 4" increments. I measured, and figured, and pondered? Finally I took a chance and ordered one 44" the almost actual length of the too bolts, and the Mod 64 is close. Well it fits both bolts like a glove, and little to spare on the 64! And it's inside the 4w on both sides! And it's an outstanding case for the money, padded big time, imo, as good as the High$ one, of which name I forget! Best money I ever spent on a case! A good zippered pouch top!

Here it is with my Rem 700 270Win and the 30-06 is same length. No problem!

Re: Rifle Case Length?
Since my rifles are in cases only to travel in my car or truck I don't want to fight a case too much. I prefer at least an extra inch on each end, and if there's more it's no big deal. I only have 3 or 4 cases that are fitted exactly to specific rifles and those are hardwood cases with dividers to hold the gun, and a couple even have leather straps inside to buckle the guns snug inside. The rest of my cases get shared and used in about 60 different rifles, so it's rare that a case is an exact fit.

Re: Rifle Case Length?
I recently bought a 46-inch soft case for the 44-inch CZ double shottie and because of the width of the double 20-gauge barrels, it was too tight a fit.
I am fond of the padded Midway soft cases with the big ammo pocket. I like close but not tight.

Re: Rifle Case Length?
I’m buying cases only from Skinner right now and I get them pretty close to the length of the rifle.
I really like these cases.
