UPDATED—no longer needed. WTB in Arkansas 12-28 x .342+ screw
I need a front tang screw for a Marbles peep sight for my Browning B92. Marbles furnishes a 10-32 screw but mine is a larger screw for whatever reason. I have not been able to locate one. If you have one that is longer but threaded all the way up I could make that work too.
Thanks,
JBowen
Update— I no longer need a screw thanks to Lassiter. He took a fillister head screw and machined the head down to an oval head and blued it. It worked perfectly.
A big Thank you to Lassiter. Here is a picture.

Brownells used to sell a replacement screw kit, from #0 up to #12 screws in the kit. Both fine and coarse threads. Dunno if they still have them or if you an buy singles but that's where I'd start looking.

Thanks Gunny. I have searched Brownells without any luck.
I have screw in the mail from Lyman that may work. The CS guy is mailing it for free! Can’t beat that.

I did find the kit on Brownells but of course it's out of stock!
Even better, right from the source saves having to make one work!

Well, I am still looking for a screw. The one Lyman sent me is too small and too short. I can't get mad because they sent it for free. I have sent out a couple of emails
over the weekend and hope they come up with one. In the meantime, I am still looking.
Thanks,

Have you looked at McMaster- Carr? They seem to have lots of stuff.
If I get a chance today I'll call my go to local high end hardware guys.
Oh I just remembered! The Ruger 10/22 action stock screw is i believe 12-28! Of course longer than you need but probably easy to find!

Thanks Gunny, I appreciate it. I found a 12-28 screw with the phillister head. It will work in a pinch, but I am still looking for the oval head that fits the recess.
I will look the screw in my 10-22 Ruger today and see if I can make it work.
Thanks for looking at your resources.

Did you find the screw that you were looking for? I have some of the Brownells fillister head screws and I took one and chucked it up in my drill press and took a file and turned it into a dome head screw. Have you thought about trying that? Or I'll gladly send this one to you if you like. After I turned it I cold blued it with Brownells Oxpho blue. It doesn't look too bad.
Just a thought...

.
Just a thought, but sometimes I've 'made do' with a METRIC one that is close... would there be one like that more available (say at the local hardware store)....?

I took out the action screw on my 10-22 today and like you said is too long. My is not threaded all the way so I can't cut it off.GunnyMack wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 6:12 am Have you looked at McMaster- Carr? They seem to have lots of stuff.

Lassiter, I took the fillister head screw I found and cut it to the correct length this afternoon and I put the new Marbles sight on. The head stood up quite a bit proud and theLassiter wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 7:23 pm Did you find the screw that you were looking for? hammer would hit it. I filed it down until the gun would cycle good. Looks pretty Redneck.
I appreciate your offer to send me that screw. I will PM you with my mailing address.
Thank you

I thought about that today and while I was in town today, I went by the hardware store and found a socket head pan head screw that has the black oxide finish. It is a 1/4" x 28
fine thread. I brought it home to use as a last choice. I have the tap and drill bit already and it would be easy to do.
I had not thought about metric. I will get on Marbles sight and see if they have metric oval head screws available.
Thanks-a-bunch,
JBowen
